    I get why clubs will not accept a route where you add the number of games you have to play to win...

    But 8 groups of 6 is a vastly better tournament for many, many reasons.

    Or even 12 groups of four where the eight teams with the most points get byes. I don't care what, just not this 3 team group bull****.

      It's an effort to keep down the total number of games teams play. FIFA has to do that or they run the risk of angering the major clubs.

          I remember those in the NASL. IIRC Carlos Alberto was pretty good in the shootout.
