  • Re: UML Recruiting, 2017+

In other news, recruit Conor Sodergren is having a very good start to 2017. He had 5 point game this evening with a goal and four assists. He's now 7-5-12 in his last 5 games played.

He and Cole Paskus have been producing at a high rate since they've announced their commitments.

      Evaluation of Schutz.

The recent Robert Morris commit has had a strong sophomore campaign with Alberni (BCHL) averaging over a point per game and reaching 30 goals in his 43rd game of the season. He's a natural scorer with a good eye for the net, elusive yet quick hands and the intellect to be in the right place at the right time. His most obvious skill are his hands but he's got deceptive strength, especially in traffic areas where he can lean on defenders to protect the puck and lower the shoulder to drive the net. While he's not a flashy skater he's got enough speed to get to where he needs to be and he's particularly effective on the powerplay where he can play off the wall or from the point.

        Recruit stats:

F - Cole Paskus - 37 points (18-19-37) in 35 games played. (Tied for 5th in scoring in the NAHL.)
        F - Connor Sodergren - 46 points (19-27-46) in 41 games played.
F - Eriks Zohovs - 30 points (12-18-30) in 19 games played. (Injured has not played since 11/25/16.)
F - Charles Levesque - 55 points (23-32-55) in 39 games played. (2nd in the CCHL in scoring.)
        F - Clark Kerner - 44 points (20-24-44) in 17 games played. (2nd in the USPHL U16 in scoring.)

D - Croix Evingson - 31 points (8-23-31) in 33 games played. (2nd in the NAHL in scoring for a defenseman.)
        D - Cale List - 6 points (0-6-6) in 31 games played.
        D - Trevor Zins - 6 points (0-6-6) in 30 games played.

I wonder how many forwards they will bring in next season. Based on the current roster there's not a lot of slots available. Sodergren will have to come in due to his age. I assume Schutz will be eligible for the second half. Do they bring in another forward?

On defense Kapla & Zink will need to be replaced. My guess is Evingson and List will come in.

Not Lowell related, but I found this interesting. Wisco picked up two more commits yesterday and their commit list is now at 30 incoming for the next 4 years. What makes this fun (for me) is that the two yesterday are twins. They already had a set of twins who have committed. And two brothers also. When those six are on the ice, I'm trying to figure out if this will be fun for their announcers or a PITA!

Thanks Jeff. Do you know of anyone else that Lowell specifically is looking at? I wish college hockey had more recruiting info available.

Cam Ellsworth and Norm Bazin were both there, but I do not know who they were looking at specifically.

Of course, one of the 2 from the GOJHL... is our own Tyler Wall.
