No kidding. I saw it on TV and literally stopped and involuntarily said, "so, this is going to happen every day now?," and one of the younger guys at my work laughed. It's just part of their everyday world. I want to throw up.

The majors are running with it now.

The hunt for one to three suspects was taking place near a San Bernardino, California, center where as many as 20 people were shot Wednesday, authorities said.

SWAT teams and the bomb squad were working to clear the buildings where the shootings took place.

Witnesses told police they saw three men with long rifles, a law enforcement source told CNN. The source said the suspects got into a black SUV and drove away.

The bomb squad found a suspicious package on the second floor of a building and determined it is "not normal," the source said. They are going to handle it with a robot, the source added.

          • There are multiple buildings in the complex, CNN affiliate KTLA reported. SWAT teams are moving methodically through to clear them.

          • The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were responding, agency representatives said.

          • Loma Linda University Medical Center is expecting an unknown number of patients from the shooting, spokeswoman Briana Pastorino said. She said the extent of the anticipated patients' injuries is not clear.

          • A woman who works at a building where the shootings occurred texted her father: "Shooting at my work. People shot." The father told CNN affiliate KABC his daughter told him 10 to 20 people were shot.

I swear, ISIS terrorists are not ever going to hit some place here in the US. They don't have to. They're probably looking at all these shootings thinking "Great! No need for us to do anything, these idiots are killing themselves!" *sigh* So sad.

According to this calendar, this is the 355th mass shooting in the US this year (336 days). A mass shooting is defined as 4 victims including the shooter. There was actually another one earlier today in GA.

These are isolated incidents with no trends at all.

Depressingly, there is a SWAT standoff going on in LA which was misreported as relating to the SB shooting but is in fact an entirely separate incident.

                    I know how this ends.

All of these events are crazy, but multiple shooters? Shooting up a huge facility that treats autistic people?
That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

From what I can piece together it sounds like the shooting was at gathering for staff, not patients. Ordinarily that would seem like a disgruntled employee or perhaps domestic violence spilling over into the workplace, but these were three men in camo with rifles and/or shotguns and they managed to escape despite a police presence -- that has all the attributes of a planned operation.

Exactly. It's like a bad movie plot to go in and rip off some traveling diamond display or something. "Hey, I got an idea. Let's suit up, run down and shoot up that social worker Christmas party."

It's been a few years since I was in this area, but I don't recall that it's a particularly nice area of L.A. As I recall, a fair amount of gang problems, drug problems and the like.

I just have a hunch that what we are going to ultimately find out is that there was one or two specific targets of this killing, maybe a spouse of someone involved in some shady activities, and this was just a message or revenge killing with a ton of collateral damage.

Wake me up when we'll finally talk about meaningful gun control. Until then, I just hope I'm not caught in the crossfire.
