The right stuff? Wasn't that some boy band song from the 90s? You're hurting your own argument with that one Fred.

Do they not care, because if so, then what does that say about the rest of their work? Is it representative of the quality of their work as a whole, because if so, then they'll probably speed up the process of burning up the planet rather than slow global warming.

I've got to tell you, as someone who has watched some B1G output on the ice these past four years, you guys are not giving me a lot of confidence that you should be put in charge of anything.
Maybe you should watch some NHL hockey if you want to see what the B1G produces in regards to hockey.

The B1G gave us "The Miracle on Ice". You do remember that, right? The Greatest Sports Upset of the 20th Century, the event that gave the entire country back its confidence, that some believe turned things around in regards to the cold war?

11 of the 20 members of the team were current or former B1G players, and basically the entire coaching staff.

If you don't recognize the names Grissom, Glenn, Cooper and Slayton or the term Mercury Astronauts, then that doesn't say much about your grasp of history.

The fact that you instead reference some boy band could tell us more about you than any of us would be comfortable knowing.

But if you want to talk about Music, the B1G produced YANNI and Zonday(chocolate rain)

Okay, this should be good. What pray tell does that tell you about me besides the fact I was alive and had knowledge of pop culture that was non stop on the radio in the 90s?

Probably not a great idea to turn on the people who are NOT trying to rip you apart in this thread, but what do I know?

I bet it goes over just to extend the fun. It rarely seems to lock right at 1000.

You are right Tiggsy, when I read your post, I assumed it was a post from Tipsy. And when I typed in "The Right Stuff" into the wiki search engine, that pop band came up, lol.

And I suppose some of you younger guys might not have been taught about things like the Mercury Astronauts, or even seen the movie "The Right Stuff" that was about how they got recruited, and chosen and their training, etc., leading up to their going up into space and helping America get ahead in the space race.

I don't know about the other B1G Universities specifically, except that Purdue has been dubbed "Astronaut U", which I would assume means they supply the country with ALOT of astronauts. As for UMn, they've supplied NASA with some of its most prominent Astronauts/leaders. And a UMn guy is the only person in the world to have had a hand on/in creating/producing/inventing equipment that has been to every planet in our solar system.

Yanni guys, come on, how can you beat Yanni???

Oh, and the musical half of Starsky & Hutch, too. #1 in April 1977, "Don't give up on us"? Way to go Hutch.

And no, Starsky wasn't a Nacho guy, he went to BU.

And if a new version of The Grinch Who stole Christmas ever comes out, they will surely look to a B1G guy, Zonday to sing the theme song. lol

If the B1G is also a myth, that means NaCHo never formed and we're all still back in the good old WCHA days.

Ahh... the nightmare is finally over!
    It's another Minnesota Miracle.

“Attended”? “Pre-flight”? But not “graduated”? More early departures, I guess. Maybe that explains why the Big hasn’t put a man on the moon in over 40 years.
But I bet those guys were hellish hockey players.

But if Yanni, Zonday or Hutch(David Soul) are not the kinds of music you like, maybe Babes in Toyland will do it for you? The Drummer was a UMn gal.

Or Jazz pianist Larry Novak, who worked with some of your grandparents faves from Pearl Bailey and Count Basie, Peggy Lee and Frank Sinatra, just to name a few.

Or maybe Stephen Paulus, cofounder of the American Composers Forum is more your style?

If none of those do it for you, even if you don't like him, I'd think it would be impossible to diss the only musician EVER to be awarded a Nobel Prize in Literature, the legendary BOB DYLAN.

And those are all just Univ of Minnesota people.

The Moon? My guess is the B1G has its sights on bigger things, like Mars and/or exploring all of the other planets. I did mention that a UMn guy is the only person to design equipment on ships that have gone on missions to every single planet in our solar system, right? So who cares about not going back to the moon??? I mean really, come on, is that all you got?

Come on, man! Steven Paulus! THE Steven Paulus! And Larry Novak! You're seriously arguing that your conference -which has won the last 2 NCAA hockey championships- is really a better hockey conference than one that gave us Steven Paulus?

There's an internet meme with Fry from Futurama that says "Not sure if trolling, or really stupid." That picture is worth a thousand posts.

Larry Novak has totally transformed YOUR life, unbeknownst to you.

Not JUST Stephen Paulus and Larry Novak, but David Soul, Zonday, the drummer from Babes in Toyland, YANNI, and Nobel Prize winning Bob Dylan, too.

Oh, and 7 former NHL All-Stars, and 3 Hockey Hall of Famers, and the most US Hockey Hall of Famers and of course the most US Olympic Hockey Hall of Famers, too. Along with the most Hockey Gold Medal winners and medal winners in general, and DOUBLE the # of Olympic participants than any other school, too. Edit - Wheeler is a current NHL All-Star.

Phil Kessel - 700+ pts in his NHL career, and on route to having his best point total ever this season. When I checked yesterday, he was ranked #7 in scoring in the NHL.

Blake Wheeler - 567 pts in his NHL career, and on route to having his best point total ever this season as well. As of yesterday, he was ranked #4 in scoring in the NHL.

Thomas Vanek - 729 pts in his NHL career, and is on route to having one of his best point totals in the last decade. As of yesterday, he was ranked #67 in NHL scoring.

Kyle Okposo - 438 pts in his NHL career, has had to deal with injuries this year, but has been climbing the point rankings from in the 200s to #142 now.

Those 4 players, in the 8 seasons they were not playing for the Gophers, but could have, scored 310 pts in the NHL, just shy of 40 pts a season.

That's pretty good for young men barely able to drink legally, if they were. And former #1 pick Johnson scored 101 pts in the NHL the 3 seasons he could have been playing for the Gophers. And Nick Leddy scored 62 pts in the NHL while he could have been playing for the Gophers. That's a lot of missing offense from just 6 of the players that left early, Wheeler the only one of them who played more than 2 seasons in college.

And Minnesota is not alone in losing a ton of its best talent early to the NHL, Michigan and Wisconsin both send more to the NHL than all but UND, too.

For the last 3-4 years I've been keeping tabs on which team's alums score the most points in the NHL, and UMn, Wisc & Michigan have all been ranked among the Top 4 each season, with UND never doing better than 3rd.

PSU is just still a baby of a program, so it will take a few years before it's impact on the NHL can be seen, and Notre Dame out produces all but UND and DU, so now that they are in the B1G, will that change? With them being ranked #1 in the nation right now? I doubt it. And OSU hasn't produced much of anything in the way of NHL talent, even less than the worst in the NCHC, so if they all of a sudden start producing more than those bottom teams in the NCHC, how will that be explained by NCHC apologists???

So... Great musicians, history altering Astronauts, AND some of the best hockey players EVER.

I wonder what percentage of Natl Titles B1G women's hockey teams have won??? B1G women's hockey > the rest of the nation's women's hockey teams combined

B1G alumni probably focus their energies on things like inventing or developing things like

    mass spectrometers
    particle accelerators
    radio
    Television
    Computers and
    the internet

And those are just the things I know the University of Minnesota helped out with. Guessing the other 13 B1G schools may have contributed to a few innovations over the years.

None of you guys would be able to be having this conversation/debate/discussion using the internet and your computers, unless it was for the B1G.
