      Federalist 10:

In the first place, it is to be remarked that, however small the republic may be, the representatives must be raised to a certain number, in order to guard against the cabals of a few; and that, however large it may be, they must be limited to a certain number, in order to guard against the confusion of a multitude. Hence, the number of representatives in the two cases not being in proportion to that of the two constituents, and being proportionally greater in the small republic, it follows that, if the proportion of fit characters be not less in the large than in the small republic, the former will present a greater option, and consequently a greater probability of a fit choice.
James Madison was talking about a nation of 3,929,214, of whom about 200,000 were eligible to hold public office. He figured with a pool of fifth of a million potential candidates, there would be no lack of great people to fill all elective offices.

About 150 million Americans are eligible for the presidency this year.

I think Madison owes us an apology.

Clinton at least is awful by our normal standards of awful.

I'm not kidding: I would select ANY member of this Forum to serve instead of Trump. Hear that, FlagDUDE? I suggest you put on a tie.

I can't speak for SS protocol but I can say as a medical person that if that is the protocol it is just plain dumb. I could understand if the protocol was for unexplained syncopal episode but far as I can tell she didn't lose consciousness. Maybe I am wrong. Most medical protocols are not rigid and rely on assessing the situation. Not being a SS I can't say how rigid thier protocols are. I can't imagine it would be realistic for them t be completely rigid.

Not defending the H so much as commenting on the silliness perpetuated with all of the hyping of minutia regarding anything and the absolute lack of real journalism or fact finding. Every election there is some foolish conspiracy with medical things but they usually don't get this much traction with so little evidence or evidence being summarily dismissed

Wow. One of our staff told me last week that Chelsea's apartment is registered with the NYS Department of Health as a surgical center.

Don't ask me where he got that from.

                        Not bad, internet. Not bad.

I heard on a podcast that Hillary Clinton escalated the Waco massacre. I tried to look it up online, where I found a site attributing this allegation to Linda Tripp, and a second source on a British site.

The theories that she has Parkinson's are really starting to spread much more widely than ever. I'm more than a bit surprised, it seems like it is moving beyond the wacko fringe elements and becoming slightly more respectable to voice it out loud....

The letter released by her doctor gives lots of detail about stuff that doesn't really matter and says nothing at all to address the question on "everyone's" mind.

If she has to cancel next Monday's debate for medical reasons, big if, we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

PS: here is what the New York State Department of Health has to say about Metrocare Home Health Services, Inc. It WAS listed at the address in the article posted earlier by SteveP....

Note: This facility is closed or has merged with another facility. Information here is maintained for historical purposes only.
Here is the Yellow Pages listing, I did not dial the number.....http://www.yellowpages.com/new-york-...vc-inc-6996015 I'll let one of Her Highness' avid defenders do that so that they can triumphantly report they have debunked this rumor!!

There is something almost ghoulish about this whole situation, for some reason it seems like maybe Dorian Gray is finally getting a look at his picture and doesn't like it very much....

That would be bad. Worse? A literal misstep in front of the cameras.

Part of me hopes Hillary looks calm and cool but goes on one "what does it matter!" rant and Donald breaks a bead in a big way but stays in "campaign Donald*" mode.

*Not to be confused with "twitter Donald", "apprentice Donald", or "primaries speech Donald" modes.

I'm half-expecting the "moderator" to aggressively challenge Trump (the media collectively fired a warning shot across Lester Holt's bow, so to speak, given how badly they trashed Matt Lauer last week!). and for Trump to reply, "hey, who am I supposed to be debating, you or her?"
