Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition
All of a sudden, we've got pitching issues all over the place, one week before the real thing begins.
Norris is headed to the DL, and Pelfrey is starting to get hit a bit. Exactly zero people are surprised by that last bit. I suspect that Shane Greene is going to get Norris's spot until he gets back, and then if Greene isn't totally getting bombed all over the house, he'll shift to the pen.
Speaking of the pen, Bruce Rondon got sent to Toledo. Nothing unexpected there. But Bobby Parnell got outright released, too. That one surprised me a bit. Alex Wilson and Blaine Hardy are not healthy. If I had to guess, they're both in worse shape than anyone is letting on. It looks like the bullpen is going to consist of: KRod, Justin Wilson, Mark Lowe, Drew VerHagen, Buck Futter, and God only knows what else. Maybe they bring Boyd north, who knows?
Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition
Central is going to be a meat grinder this year.
-Indians can pitch but can't hit.
-Tigers can hit but can't bullpen.
-White Sox retooling will eventually work.
-Royals can hit and have lights out bullpen.
-Twins are on cusp of having a bunch of prospects become stars.

agreed there hammer and JF. it's going to be tough. I can't see victor being in the lineup all that often and I wonder who takes his place. I'm hoping boyd comes thru but thats a hope not based on fact. I think Sanchez will surprises us though.

So, predictions for this season? How many wins for a playoff spot?

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition
Well, we just traded Holaday to the Rangers for a 33 year old minor league catcher and a 24 year old starting pitcher who is probably going to open the season in Toledo.
It's better than what I thought we were going to get, which was nothing. He was out of options.

Figure on 92 wins for a playoff spot if we do not win the division.
If we're healthy, we will contend. But that's an awfully big "if". We've already got injury issues all over the pitching staff, both in the rotation and the pen.
Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition
Until further notice, it looks like the rotation is: Verlander-Zimmerman-Sanchez-Pelfrey-Greene. Until Norris gets back or if Greene or Pelfrey start getting bombed, anyway.

Opening Night.
Here's what I think. 100% chance of being full of ****.
The back half of the rotation is questionable at best, as constructed. Age along with health will also take enough of a toll to cost this team a shot at postseason play.

JV has more hits than the Marlins so far.
