70 years ago the Army Air Force took farmboys and made them pulots. We need pilots, not scientists.

I think they just look for reaction time now. Quick assessment skills. They might do well to just draft QBs.

So, now we ****ed up our pilot production? Does this country do anything anymore?

Micromanagement - which the Air Force is noted for (read Yeager & Hopper). In war, you get your plane in an advantage position over your opponent. That's piloting. You don't need a college degree for that.

The Russian approach would be to build 1,000 cheap planes and train 1,000 pilots when you need 250. Attrition will eliminate the bad pilots.

I'm not even sure that's true anymore. Our ships and planes never come within the same timezone of the ones they are fighting. The computers and guidance systems do all the actual fighting.

A lot of this is impossible to assess because we haven't had any sort of real practical air combat against a non-wuss opponent in 50 years or against a real navy in 70 years. For all we know, none of this multi-trillion dollar sh-t is even going to work.

Subs I trust. They play cat and mouse with the various blue water navies.

But how vulnerable are we to cyber war?

Farm boys don't do well with 200 million dollars worth of electronics. That's why engineers are the choice

Remember we're talking prop planes here, not F-## super duper interceptor.

Friend of mine, very quiet, pretty smart, but with no discernible eye-hand coordination or athletic ability (could not throw a ball, or shoot a basket, etc. to save his life and had two or more left feet. I have no idea how he managed it. He's been out quite awhile now and just pilots Jumbos across the water from Chicago once a week. Which is a pretty good gig.
