Under the common American definition of "university", yes. It is an institute of higher learning offering both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in many fields spread over multiple schools/colleges.

RPI does not, however, include the word "University" in it's name, and never has.

At one time underneath Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute logos read "A Technological University".

She scored a goal in the first game on Monday. http://stats.hockeycanada.ca/game/sh...ferrer=1982167. The goal is at about 1:33:30 of the attached video stream, but the cameraman will never work for RPI-TV.

I will always remember freshman orientation, when our entire class went up to the Field House and were welcomed by the president of the (ahem) Institute, Richard Folsom.

Dr. Folsom began, "I'd like to welcome you all to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute!"

He continued, "Actually, I wouldn't. We've always sort of wished we could change that name, because, over the years, we have found that:
Few people know how to spell "Rensselaer;"
Fewer yet know what "Polytechnic" means;
And who in the hell wants to go to an "Institute?"
