Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey IV

Forgot to post this earlier, but total attendance at the Girls State Tournament this year set an all-time record of 21,365. They mentioned this on the telecast of the just concluded Boys State Tournament which also set a new attendance record of 135,618, which includes a Minnesota indoor hockey record of 21,609 for the Friday evening session.

ALSO, just for a little levity after all the tense drama that played out with the NCAA Tourney selections, here is this year's "Minnesota State High School All Hockey Hair Team". This year's new sponsor, Warrior Hockey, pledged to donate $15,000 to a charity if the video reached 100,000 hits. It's new gone viral, with over 225,000 hits since being posted yesterday.

‘A perfect season’: Thief River Falls coach Whitney Restemayer, a former Bemidji Lumberjack, is first woman to coach state hockey champion in Minnesota

“To a lot of Minnesota girls, the Division I thing just isn’t something they think of,” she said. “This makes it more realistic that you don’t need a man to coach you to get far. Females have come a long way in sports in general. I know I’m the first to win, but I enjoy knowing that I won’t be the last.”

A very interesting article on Minnesota State recruit Jordan McLaughlin:

Grand Rapids-Greenway's McLaughlin is News Tribune's girls hockey player of the year

Two-Time State Girls Tennis Champ Seeks Boys Titles

"Aney is also one of the highest-scoring players in the history of Minnesota girls hockey. She led the state in scoring during each of the last two hockey seasons. She scored 44 goals with 52 assists for 96 points last winter as a senior. She holds the state's all-time leading assist record and is among the all-time scoring leaders in Minnesota girls hockey history."

Especially amazing since she will be playing tennis, not hockey, in college next year. Currently she's playing in the boy's state tennis tournament, just beating the No. 1 player from Edina in the quarterfinals. If you like tennis watch the embedded video:

Not trying to diminish Miss Aney's accomplishments but as we should all know by now, for some reason or another Roseville has never officially and/or properly reported to MSHSL the scoring totals from the early years of RAHS hockey.

Renee Curtin had 544 points as a Raider, a total clearly above any other high school hockey player in Minnesota but a total not recognized by the MSHSL. Her playing career ended after high school due to a head injury suffered at the end of her junior year in high school. Amazingly she was allowed to play as a senior in high school but never played college hockey.

I have looked a few times, including today, but have never found a break down of her goals and assists or even her season totals but with her all time leading point total of 544, I suspect she is also the actual all time leader in assists.
Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

I wonder what her back hand is like in hockey?
