Someone give me something to be excited about when going to Vegas with my family (bro, sis-in-law, nephew (9), mom). My mom has been going to Vegas for 40 years, but we don't really have the same idea of Vegas fun. Mine is food (or booze). Hers is casinos. Going with a 9 year old requires casual dining places, so any of the hoity-toity stuff is out. I noticed Bouchon is there. Is it a sad, "Vegas" shell of the original Bouchon, or worth it? There's a Shake Shack, but again, is it a sad, lesser version? I've been there before, but not in the past 7-8 years.

I've been looking into going to the USA Copa America match in Philly on June 11th...

Today Southwest is offering a round of super cheap flights, but there is a catch: they're Milwaukee to LaGuardia instead of the Chicago to Philly flights I've been looking at... MKE ---> LGA is over 1/2 off compared to the other flights... I can get to from MKE no problem, but what am I getting into going between NYC and Philly? Google shows it's about 2 hours by car and an hour train ride that leaves from Penn Station in NYC... Anything important to know about commuting between NYC and Philly?

I wouldn't mind doing some NYC things too, but I have a feeling that it'll be $200+/night for a hotel alone plus whatever else I do...
It's never too early to start the Pre-game festivities

          Go Cats!!! GO BLACKHAWKS!

Cuck the Fubs... Let's Go WHITE SOX!!!

Bouchon is good, but clearly you and I have different definitions of "hoity-toity". Bouchon is casual dress (so if that is your main concern, then you're good), but you'll still pay $40 for a steak frites entree with no beverages.

Bouchon, as in Keller's bakery, not Joel Robuchon.

MKE is really a nice airport to fly out of. With kids in college in NYC and Atlanta, the flights selections and prices were usually very good, and it's seldom crowded. A kid in Nola, not so much.

the way to go to downtown Philly from LGA is to get the Q 70 express bus at the terminal to the jackson heights subway E train. Catch that to penn station. $2. 75. Then get an amtrak ticket, or cheaper go outside and catch greyhound or the megabus for 15 dollars. the train is 65 dollars, the bus lets you out in central philly. but it takes two hours vs one for the train. the subway bus to penn station is just over an hour.
Hotel in philly are on the high side. you can find them for 150 though. no car needed.

I'm starting to plan a trip to New Zealand and Australia later this year. Any thoughts from folks that have been there would be appreciated.

Never really developed a taste for tequila. Kind of hard to understand how you make a drink out of something that sharp, inhospitable. Now, bourbon is easy to understand.

Has anyone been to the Maldives? I was invited to a wedding in sw India in May and decided to add on a stop in the Maldives since it's so close.
I am trying to choose which island/resort to stay at. Tougher than I thought

Anyone tried using AirBnB for their travels?

I'm currently looking for hotels in Philadelphia for the 2nd weekend in June and brand name hotels in the "downtown" area are ~$200/night... Through AirBnB, I'm finding whole apartments for under $150/night... Just curious if this falls into a "get what you pay for" category...

I'm just not familiar with booking hotels in a major downtown area and am suffering from some sticker shock... I'm used to the $65 Super 8 variety hotel

Yes. Did it when I went to Winter Park for a mogul skiing clinic last year.

Just make sure you read the reviews. I ended up getting a perfectly acceptable king-set bedroom for $70/night, shared the living room and kitchen, and didn't encounter any annoying neighbors. In fact, interaction with the host and other guests was pretty minimal.
