There are very definitely useful predictors for the outcome of the playoffs but that doesn't mean you should bet your house based upon them.

Traditional haiku for the top ten:

      1. BC
      BC in the west plays
      Cupcake poor they would be
      Undefeated not

      2. Minnesota
      Targets on their backs
      Complacent play can be had
      Dangerous they are

      3. Wisconsin
      Cardinal and white
      Glory days return so close
      Nightmare's shade maroon

      4. Harvard
      Crimson shining bright
      Eagle horror though they had
      Ego still intact

      5. Quinnipaic
      Cats from the northeast
      Defense is their calling card
      Shut you down they will

      6. UMD
      Miller-less ahead
Will not be easy to play
      Dynasty on hold

      7. BU
      Rollercoaster red
Never quite sure which will show
      Maple leafs they trust

      8. UND
      Whioux are they you ask
      A rising nameless terror
      Might be what you see

      9. Clarkson
      Respect they have earned
      Experience though lacking
      Playoffs oh not them

      10. St Lawrence
      Feisty they can be
Modern day knights skates and sticks
      You best bring your best

        My revised standings

        1. Boston College Impressive tonight in every facet except scoring and still they win
        2. Minnesota Of coarse maybe they should be #1
        3. Wisconsin They are playing like a #1 team
        4. Harvard Do they deserve this spot after losing to Princeton? Well they lay a 9 spot on BU so I guess yes.
        5. Quinnipiac You can't beat Harvard so you don't deserve to be higher than Harvard
        6. Minnesota-Duluth Maybe they should be #4 but then they go and lose and tie UND
        7. Cornell IMHO they could be the #1 team in the ECAC but then again needs OT to defeat Colgate 3-2 after trailing 2-0 after 2
        8. North Dakota This weekend shows that they deserve some consideration
        9. Boston University The jeckel and hyde season continues after getting blown out by Hahvad 9-2
        10. Clarkson Shuts out SLU 2-0 so they get #10

I don't get why people are dropping BC. IMO, they could lose to Harvard next week, and the Eagles are likely still No. 1, even if UM gets out of Grand Forks unscathed. Dull and boring wins are still wins.

I agree. They are one scarey team. Tonight was the first time I was able to see them play. They can really throw the puck around. NE goalie played really well but BC also had I would guess 7 or 8 shots that had her beat if they were on net.

If you're ranking the teams by their actual results I've always thought that you don't penalize a team for winning. But then again if you're ranking using different criteria, such as "which team would likely win if they were to play each other tomorrow" then strength of schedule and margin of victory come more into play. I tend to go with the former, which is why I've left BC at No. 1 since early in the season.

BC played much better tonight despite the score. Makes me feel better about keeping them #1. I was going to drop them after the PC game until Minnesota got the tie.
