    1) HOLY *** LOOK AT NORTHEASTERN

    2) Who would have expected the top 20 to include skaters from RPI (at joint 6th!), OSU, Vermont, and Minnesota State? (Thanks UND). And, if you go down to everyone with 10 points, you also take in Cassidy Carels from Providence.

    3) Wisconsin are a depth team, so only two skaters in the top 20 isn't that surprising. But to see only two from Minnesota as well is unexpected, and backs up my feeling that Minnesota have dropped off a bit (although who knows what will happen this weekend).

not a real surprise when a team plays only 2 lines and sprinkles in the 3rd once and a while...I assume MN, WI and BC use 3 lines with the 4th sprinkled in.

Scoring depth of the top teams

      Goals (not points)

Goals scored by the top 3 scorers, and the % of that teams total goals
      BC.....71....47.65%...Carpenter, Skarupa, Keller...(Total goals of team..149)
      Wisc...55....49.55%...Nurse, Clark, Pankowski.....(Total goals..111)
      Minn...64....46.04%...Cameranesi, Brandt, Pannek..(Total goals..139)
      Quinni.44....51.16%..Cianfarano, Samoskevich, Connery..(Total goals 86)
      NE......66.....49.25%...Coyne, Kirzova, Scamurra..(Total goals..134)
I believe NE is only team who's top 3 scorers all play on the same line

Goals by 4-6 top scorers and % of total
      BC.....30....20.13%
      Wisc...24....21.62%
      Minn...31....22.30%
      Qunni..22....25.58%
      NE......30....22.39%

Goals by the rest of roster and % of total goals
      BC.....48....32.21%
      Wisc..32....28.83%
      Minn..44....31.65%
      Qunni.20....23.26%
      NE.....38.....28.36%

Lots of statistics and math majors here may know right away limitations of this and why it's not relevant-but FWIW

Brandt didn't play in half of the UM games in January.

Wisconsin plays its 4th line much more than Minnesota does. Particularly in January, UM didn't always have a full 4th line dressed. There are teams like Bemidji State that are deeper and can roll four lines much easier than the Gophers. But your point is correct that all those teams give their third lines regular shifts.

Not a math major, but love numbers. Using a simple model: Weighting 1-3 and 4-6 as 1/6 each and rest of team as 4/6 - I come up with the following for most balanced teams in terms of scoring (considering only the five listed)

          1 MN
          2 BC
          3 WI
          4 NE
          5 QU

Usually, when you get a statistical anomaly like all of those NE players at the top of the scoring stats since Jan 1st, all you have to do is look at who NE played since Jan 1st. Simple as that. Let me guess, they played a bunch of complete nobodies? Just a guess, I could be wrong, NE could have instantly turned into the greatest team in all of history, lol.
