Re: 2nd Term Part IX - How Lame is my Duck
I like Obama's attitude. I wish he would go ahead and propose ambitious tax and spend programs to address homelessness, mental health outreach, food stamps. I don't have high hopes that he'll put them forward, or that they'd get anywhere if he did, but I wish.Huskies are very intelligent and trainable. Huskies make an excellent jogging companion, as long as it is not too hot. Grooming is minimal; bathing is normally unnecessary.

Re: 2nd Term Part IX - How Lame is my Duck
Since it's a given that nothing will happen for the next two years, the Democrats should concentrate on positive themes of believing that the country can still accomplish things. It will make a nice contrast to the sh1tstorm of pettiness, stupidity and cruelty that will come from the party of impeachment, creationism, and the Ryan budget.
They also better start working on more effective GOTV, beginning with making sure everybody has an ID and is registered. The voter suppression that will happen next time is going to make this year look like a model of democratic practice. No idea why they don't link arms and propose a national holiday for Election Day, just to force the GOP out in the open in opposing it. What on earth argument could they possibly come up with against it? Other than "but if people vote we'll lose!"?Last edited by Kepler; 11-08-2014, 05:58 PM.Cornell University

Re: 2nd Term Part IX - How Lame is my Duck
Obama's last two years will most likely be fairly straight forward. Forget about tax reform and stuff like that. There's too many special interests with their hands in the pie for a bipartisan solution. There will be a lot of bluster on immigration reform, but as nothing gets done yet again the O will confer legal status via executive order on millions, thus giving right wing talk radio something to be enraged about post-election.
ISIS/ISIL/Whateverthefuktheycallthemselvesnow will also continue to get pounded into oblivion for the next year or so which is a pretty uncontroversial strategy.
Beyond that, profusely apologizing to Howard Dean and begging him to return to head the DNC seems like a real good idea for Obama to do, and if his price is sending

The irony is that Obama was much less crony-driven than Clinton, but the Obama people that did crack the administration were much less effective. This is probably because at his heart Obama is a reformer who used politics as a method for gaining power while Clinton was a politician who used reform as a method for gaining power. We'll see where Hillary is.Last edited by Kepler; 11-10-2014, 08:25 AM.Cornell University

This experience makes her better not just for the Dems, but for the Indies and the Goopers (the sane ones) as well. Can you imagine a Ted Cruz or Rand Paul Presidency, two people who see themselves in almost a religious as opposed to political light (sorta like George W Bush did)? Yikes.Legally drunk???? I personally think turning election day into a holiday would have the effect of reducing turnout. A lot of people with no excuse to get out of bed or leave the house. Not sure who that is going to help or hurt.
In any event, the whole "election day" is going by the wayside. There will only be more and more early voting, electronic voting from your home or work, etc..., as we go forward. Election day will just turn into the day in which we count the votes previously cast. That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

It's also the reason Democratic candidates tend to do 4-5 points better in registered voter polls than likely voter polls.
