I'm wondering why Texas has such a high crime rate with all the law abiding citizens carrying guns? Seems to me major crimes would have been eliminated by now...

Most of the "crimes" are victimless, such as drug possession.

The one example of a vigilantism with a concealed weapon was when Gabby Gifford got shot in AZ. As it turns out, the vigilante just about killed an innocent.

Australia took away guns...and its been extremely successful and incredibly popular. Nobody's asking for that. But there's no reason to put society at extended risk by allowing taking away registration, putting them in situations where children are at risk...and making them much more capable of massacres.

Not according to violent crime statistics, of which drug dealing is not included:

6 out of 10 conservative states with loose gun laws (TN, FL, AK, AR, etc), only two liberal (MD, DE) and two swingy states (NM, NV).

                So, what gives?

To be fair, conservative states also have higher poverty, higher teen and unwed pregnancy, and lower education. So it might not be the guns; it might just be the economic, moral and intellectual disaster when you elect conservatives.

Classification also plays a big part. I'm sure Chicago is largely not counted because it isn't considered a violent crime, but rather the victimless crime of possessing a weapon, which as Rover said, is not included.

Also, they can only count what they find. Plenty of unsolveds out there, mostly because cops spend their time writing traffic tickets instead of solving real crimes.

Drat, the ammo ban didn't work. Oh well, we'll buy it all up.

Because if you the existing supply, they won't have any incentive to make more?
