So is it basically a given that it's HRC or Fauxcahontas for the Dems? What are their other options?

While this isn't an endorsement of the guy, if Hillary doesn't run I think Andrew Cuomo will. While hard core lefties don't like him, everybody still remembers the Little Ralphie Nader debacle and these people will hold their nose and vote for him in the general election.

Walker is going to have the same problem Hunstman had. Looked good on paper, but unable to break through the noise. I don't see the GOP not putting a True Believer over the top this time. They haven't been happy with the last two party nominees and I doubt they're going to do that again.

No way on earth does Warren win. Liberals can't have nice things.

If Hillary's caught in bed with a dead boy and a live girl, next comes... I dunno, maybe Mark Warner and Tim Kaine have a Virginia-off. A genuine liberal has the same chance of winning the nomination as Vermin Supreme.

It's not even hard core lefties -- Cuomo is so in the pocket of Wall Street he makes Hillary look like Warren. Plus there's a higher than average worry with Cuomo of a enormous scandal bubbling just below the surface, if only because Albany is so corrupt.

But it's interesting to see that the major Dem contenders: Hillary, Cuomo, Warner, Kaine, Webb, are all centrist verging on center-right. At the very time the country is disgusted by the far right, the Dems continue their migration to the middle. Smart politics, bad policy.

IMHO we need not nominate the most far left candidate we can find in order to not feel like sell-outs. That may work great on lefty blogs, but when it comes to winning elections is a recipe for doom. I fail to see how Hillary, Cuomo, Kaine, etc etc aren't sufficiently liberal. Its kinda like people complaining about Bill Clinton from the left.

So, if a Dem candidate doesn't want to throw everybody who's ever worked for a bank from the execs to the tellers in jail, that doesn't make them Joe Lieberman. For far too long Dems kneecapped themselves with ridiculous ideological purity crusades. Now is not the time to emulate the GOP who's going through their own purge. A Hillary Presidency gets liberals 90% of what they want with a much better than 50% chance of winning the election. A Bernie Sanders campaign may get you 100% of what you want, but with a 10% chance of winning. That's not a hard decision to make.

Kasich missed his chance. He should have run in 2000. I could have voted for him back then. That alone is probably enough to disqualify him as a serious GOP contender

You're loading the math. Hillary is .3 x .7, Bernie is .9 x .1, and the answer to both of them is the products are unacceptably low. I want a .6 x .6 or a .5 x .7; we're just not producing them. I do not think Warren is the answer because there's actually a third factor, effectiveness, and she looks low.

                Hillary is .3 x .7 x .9 = 19% of what I want.
                Bernie is .9 x .1 x .5 = 5%.
                Warren is .8 x .3 x .2 = 5%.

                Give me a .6 x .7 x .8 = 34%. That was Bill.

They announced their intention from day one to make him a one term president and sabotage him every step of the way, and then proceeded to do it. What was Obama supposed to do to "unite"? Switch parties?

Oh, Bob... We have nearly reached the point where I'm going to have to start rooting for you. It's like watching a child try to work a calculus problem, or Rick Perry try to figure out a revolving door.

the single best thing about this article is the following:

...except for that whole 'one-term' thing

ETA: Obama wasn't supposed to switch parties. He was supposed to resign from office and move back home to Kenya. Then Biden resigns and President Boehner would lead us to the Promised Land. Or a nucular holocaust, one or the other.

I don't think a good portion of people were voting FOR Obama in the 2008 election so much as either voting against Bush or voting for a historical election result (it was the first time the black population voted at a higher rate than the population as a whole). A lot of people didn't really know what to expect from him once he took office; sure, it was all there in his campaign, but I really don't think people were voting issues in 2008. When the PPACA was pushed through, it was a wholly unpopular piece of legislation with certain groups, as it was bound to be, but then that dislike spread to the population as a whole by the time the 2012 elections were ramping up.

Add to that, President Obama would needlessly insert himself into divisive racial issues, specifically with regards to the cop and the Professor Gates issue in Cambridge and later the Trayvon Martin case, and clearly taking sides before all the facts were made available. Why would he ever insert himself into local police matters? Anytime he was asked about them, he should have simply refrained. Publicly taking sides, IMO, ignited those who were already against him, and likely cooled some peoples' moderately warm outlook on him as president.
