Its like the whole gorram team needs to go out to go out somewhere and find themselves a slumpbuster.bueller: Why is the sunset good? Why are boobs good? Why does Positrack work? Why does Ferris lose on the road and play dead at home?

Where's the panic button? I'd like to press it."I went over the facts in my head, and admired how much uglier the situation had just become. Over the years I've learned that ignorance is more than just bliss. It's freaking orgasmic ecstasy".- Harry Dresden, Blood Rites

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition
I'm not there quite yet. But this is a 4-13 slide now. This isn't a blip. They're just not playing good baseball now, for over 2 weeks.
Some of it is glaringly obvious. The bullpen is a mess. Coke needs to be released. Knebel doesn't look ready. Same with Reed, for that matter. I suspect something is physically wrong with Nathan. His velocity is waaay down. He used to be 96-98. Now he's 91-93. I wonder if he needs another Tommy John. At 39, that's the end of his career. Right now he's a mild upgrade from Todd Jones. Barely. Jack Hanrahan can't get here soon enough.
The other big problem staring this team in the face is the bottom third of that order. The other night the 8-9 hitters entered the game hitting .402 combined (Avila-Romine). Andrew Romine is not a major league shortstop. Defensively, yes, but you've got to hit the ball. The days of Mark Belanger hitting .212 and playing everyday are long, long gone. The name of the game is hitting the ball. That's why Eugenio Suarez is here. Allegedly he's got some more pop. We'll see...
As for Avila and Castellanos...I'll give Avila a little bit of a pass because he appears to handle the pitching staff quite well. But just a little bit of a pass. But to be hitting .212 is not good enough. He's got to pick it up. This is going on three straight years of sub .750 OPS. I still suspect that within 3 years he'll be out of baseball, between the declining production and the abuse/damage he takes behind the plate. No one wants a beat-up catcher that can't hit.
Castellanos is barely hitting just enough to stay in the majors. His OPS is worse than Avila's. At least he's on pace to drive in about 60. *shrug* Problem is, there's no Plan B in the organization. This is what I was concerned about in the spring.
Cabrera and the Martinezes can't do it all by themselves. Kinsler is doing his job. But Rajai Davis is coming back to earth and Torii's production has dropped off dramatically. His OPS is the lowest in 14 years at this moment.FERRIS STATE UNIVERSITY: 2012 FROZEN FOUR

3rd round pick: Grayson Greiner, a catcher from South Carolina. 6-6, 220, needs to work on his hitting.
Now just what in the hell do we think we're going to do with a 6-foot-6 catcher that can't hit?FERRIS STATE UNIVERSITY: 2012 FROZEN FOUR

And then Holaday triples to RC, the deepest part of the park. 1st triple of his career.
Avila left in the 8th after getting conked in the head on a backswing. Again.FERRIS STATE UNIVERSITY: 2012 FROZEN FOUR

Avila out with another concussion. Dude's gonna have to quit at this rate."I went over the facts in my head, and admired how much uglier the situation had just become. Over the years I've learned that ignorance is more than just bliss. It's freaking orgasmic ecstasy".- Harry Dresden, Blood Rites
