Wearing number 39 leaves him with some big shoes to emulate if he gets the nod.

Jared Docking also had the number 39. Those could be the shoes to fill.

                        Cardinals hold auditions in goal - {Article courtesy of the Plattsburgh Press-Republican 10/26/2014}

                        By COURTNEY LEWIS Press-Republican
PLATTSBURGH — Charged with replacing two-time All-American Mathieu Cadieux, the Plattsburgh State men’s hockey team got a look at all three of its goaltenders in action Saturday.
The netminders each played a period and Mark Constantine led the offense with two goals and an assist as the Cardinals defeated André-Laurendeau 6-2 in a men’s hockey exhibition at Stafford Ice Arena.
Plattsburgh begins the regular season with a SUNY Athletic Conference road game Friday at Potsdam. Its home opener is scheduled for Nov. 14 against Buffalo State.
The Cardinals have an almost all-new goaltending contingent this season.
Spencer Finney, who transferred from Colgate last year and played one period for the Cardinals, started in net Saturday. He stopped all eight shots he faced. Brady Rouleau, a Fort Macleod, Alberta native who was on Quinnipiac’s roster in 2013-14, played the second period and made two saves. Ryan Hubbard was between the pipes in the third. The freshman from West Bridgewater, Mass., turned away 11 shots.
Plattsburgh coach Bob Emery said the starting job was up for grabs going into the game, and the coaches will watch the tape and evaluate the trio.
“I don’t have a problem with having one goalie, two goalies or three goalies,” Emery said. “Three goalies is tough, however. But we’ve platooned two over the years; we’ve played one. I don’t have a problem either way.”
Constantine, a senior forward, said the Cardinals started out a little shaky but “came together” as the contest went on.
“It gives us a good read on what we need to work on going forward,” Emery added. “I thought it was good to get our first game under our belt. We definitely have a lot to improve. We made a lot of mental mistakes (Saturday), but that’s par for the course for our first game.
“I think that team came to play hard, and I think our mental lapses were covered by our goaltenders really good, which helped a lot.”
Constantine put the puck in the top-right corner of the net 13:10 into the game, and the Cardinals added two more goals in the final two minutes of the first period. Kyle Hall got his stick on a loose puck out front and snuck it in the left side of the goal, and then Michael Cassidy scored from in close.
Constantine one-timed a shot for a power-play goal early in the second period. Defensemen Andrew Rossy was the only freshman to score, finding the net about seven minutes after Constantine. Dillan Fox capped Plattsburgh’s scoring by flicking in the puck as he skated across the slot with less than three minutes left in the period.
André-Laurendeau, which is based in Montreal, received goals from Hubert Delisle and Xavier Bissonnette in the third period. Francçois-David Chouinard stopped 43 of Plattsburgh’s 49 shots.
Plattsburgh’s current roster features 18 returning players, including four of the top five scorers from last year. Last season’s leading point-getter, Alex Jensen, left Plattsburgh to play in Europe. Emery said the roster could still change.
“I think our strength is going to be defense, No. 1, and then holding a lead down and outworking teams down low and making them tired,” Constantine said. “We’re going to be in great shape.”
Emery said the Cardinals are hoping to play a rugged style.
“We tried to get tougher as a team this year, with a little more grit,” he said.

Fun bit of trivia: since Zach Blake was the only Potsdam player to score goals tonight, every person who scored in this game has played for the Cardinals.
