Good. Erdogan can go fck himself with Muhammad's used butt plug. Turkey has no business being in a union of democracies as long as it perpetuates a strongman state that rigs elections, intimidates & jails opposition, and talks down to unfriendly media.

Unfortunately, that reminds me of another country I know currently heading down the same path.

Doctors in Quebec are protesting pay raises:

            https://www.cnn.com/2018/03/08/healt...rnd/index.html

Some general practitioners and medical specialists in Quebec have signed a petition saying they don't want the hundreds of millions in raises they got after negotiations with the provincial government last month.
Instead, they say the money should be redistributed -- to fund more nurses and other health care professions, and to make care more affordable for their patients.
So far more than 700 physicians, general practitioners, specialists, residents and medical students have signed the petition, which has been up since February 25.

An interesting editorial from the NYT.

The writer talks about unplugging from the "instant, always on" news sources and being able to get the information when it's accurate rather than instantaneous and speculative.

It hits on points that I just haven't been able to clearly state; "news" (CNN, FOX, Alex Jones, whoever) today is much more editorialized, inserting talking head commentary into the news.

It's the ESPN-ing of the news, where each tidbit needs to be hashed and re-hashed for the sake of sponsorship and ratings, when all people want is just the hourly SportsCenter recap repeating. Personally, I enjoyed watching CNN and more so HLN when they were less panel shows and speculation and "here's the news." (Especially HLN which was essentially the CNN-ified News version of SportsCenter.)

Or people just need to start using their brains. Something this nation sorely lacks. The last election more than any other proves that.

This. I see the headlines on CNN, and then take to the internet to actually read the facts. What scares me is many here on this board provide better links to stories (whether I agree or disagree with the posters' opinions) than actual news channels.

I kind of agree with this. There is more factual, objective information out there now than there has ever been. Because of this, we are also less vulnerable to being misled than we have ever been, so long as we consume news with some amount of discrimination. It's wonderful that you don't have to be NBC to become a news source, but it's not so wonderful that anyone can find a source that agrees with then nearly all the time. It allows people to stew in their own thoughts and allows niche sources to make a living selling slanted news to a base that will not go away. It's a little like house representatives who can say anything without fear of losing their jobs because of gerrymandering.

When I was a young adult, I could not have dreamed of getting news from BBC, Al Jazeera (or some equivalent), CSM, and other mainstream sources all in the same day.

Unfortunately, we are hardwired to accept as credible what we already believe, so it's gonna be a tough obstacle to overcome.
