Yes, the NCAA assumed that a #3 seed in the West regional would "smoke" the #1 overall seed, and that's why they tentatively scheduled the game you're team is going to play in for the early game. Wonderful logic.

Even if that weren't utterly ridiculous, you're still overlooking the fact that your program had it's ticket punched the previous day, and you're program's presence wasn't enough for the NCAA to move the game to the evening.

The Gophers move the TV meter, and that is what this discussion is about.

The Sioux won every national title before there were official national titles, except in years when we didn't play hockey. Those years we won Northern-States-except-Alaska quasi-national title. The Gophers won 6 straight national bantam titles playing out of the Bloomington Gardens.

Correct. As far as TV execs are concerned...

          Boston College = Minnesota
BC or MN > North Dakota
          North Dakota > Union
          North Dakota

Is this where you are going to say that because national championships weren't awarded every year before the NCAA that those accomplishments were meaningless?

Just like a Whioux fan. Any hockey played before they joined didn't exist.

Hahaha... Boston College is no where near MN.

It took Notre Dame to get them a national TV deal. And even Notre Dame's highest rated game on NBCSN was against MN.

It is just sad that some Gopher fans try to count being co-ranked #1 by one of the several polls (with Yale) in 1929 as a National Championship. The same can be said for counting the 1940 AAU Championship (won over...I kid you not...a group of milkmen from Connecticut...not even college hockey teams). Gopher fans have enough history, tradition, and success in every facet of their program, there is no need to try and argue that these should be counted along with NCAA National Championships. They are two different eras. I don't think anyone here will try and argue that North Dakota had a better hockey program before the NCAA era...largely because North Dakota only played 1 season in the pre-NCAA era.

Agreed. BC is still WAY ahead of North Dakota:

Not what I'm saying at all.

Are you saying that the only two years "national titles" were awarded were 1929 (and only to one of the two teams co-ranked #1?) and 1940?

                        Thread results through 106 posts:
Minnesota makes lots of money on TV revenue
                        North Dakota better at hockey

Oh yea... and Minnesota can spank the crap out of BC in October and December, not so much in March and April.

                        Carry on!

It's a worn out discussion, so I don't want to get sucked into an endless debate on the topic. I will say this. That 1940 Gopher team went a perfect 18-0 that season, and there were highly respected programs on that schedule. To say that season is irrelevant or meaningless doesn't make much sense to me.

I'm not talking about ratings. I'm talking about TV Execs. There is an enormous difference.
