Me: ...but why would anyone want to vacation here? There are better mountains in NH and VT, beaches in Cape Cod and RI, and colonial landmarks in Mass and CT.
Boss: You've got it all wrong. It's Vacationland because nobody would ever want to live here for more than a week.
He can sign in Canada at 15, and could go to Sweden like yesterday. Should college teams just sit on their hands and hope he chooses to go to college?
What's to say he won't anyway. He's 13!!! In 5 years he may not even want to play hockey anymore. I just think it's way to young to make any decision of that type. And for colleges to waste time on a 13 year old kid is dumb imo. Spend the time on kids who are further along in life, closer to going to college and actually have some what of a clue about wht they want out of life. It's a pipe dream to think that a 13 yr old kid who committs now is actually going to show up on campus in 5 or 6 years. I'd slap his parents, let the kid be a kid and determine his future when it's time.

Who knows how much time Maine spent on this? It could have been as easy as Oliver saying "I've always wanted to play at Maine!" as he walked by Gendron, Gendron saying "Looking forward to it, we'd be glad to have you!"

Very true. It means nothing but it's a national story now. His parents are putting this kid in a position that as a 13 yr old his head is going to get so big he's not gonna fit thru the door. Then what happens 3 years from now when he realizes that he's not as good as everyone been telling him he is, his whole life. Just not the way I would do it as a parent. Not my kid so it's really none of my d a mn business......but just sayin'
Are they going to give us Mainers enough time to change our travel plans if this thing tomorrow gets pushed to Sunday? I don't need to drive to Boston for no reason.

Well, if Red said anything, it would have had to be on campus, or the kid initiated the contact. Pesky NCAA rules.

True. And since his dad played at Maine, there probably wasn't a whole lot of work to be done. Kid probably just said, "I want to play for Maine like you did."
What kind of cheese are you planning to put on top?

You have no idea what this kid wants. This kid can change his mind at anytime, he can change sports he is playing at anytime. But most of what you say is hyperbole. I see a very very slim chance this kid who has been a stud playing hockey his whole life will change his mind and if he does then he does, hes not put in jail having to go to umaine. This kid is playing for arguably the best prep hockey school in maine as a 7th grader, starting. This is a chance worth taking for umaine has there is a very good chance he will be a great player and if not this kid gets a nice education out of it.

I pretty much agree with you. But just perhaps the parents knew what they were doing. By having a verbal commitment in place, I believe this minimizes the number of contacts from other schools. The parents won't be badgered with phone calls and the family could live a more normal life for 2-3 years. He can change his mind later and just might when other attractive offers come his way.

Certainly hope they don't treat this like a Sox game. Get folks in, pay for parking, concessions, etc. and then say thanks but no game today! I am pretty local in NH, but don't want to drive into the city 2 days in a row. Already do that 5 days a week!

According to the news tonight, officials will make a decision tomorrow morning.
No news to the contrary yet and it's 10:23 am. It's already rained and stopped twice here this morning. I'm dying to see Maine kick B.U.'s arse this aft, but not at all anxious to sit in the rain and watch them do it.
