Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

Cameron was phenomenal. He looked confident and did a great job marking Chicarito in the box. Edu on the other hand did not look very good. He's much better in a defensive midfield role. I'd love to see Cameron paired with Bocanegra or Goodson in the back at some point. Additionally, Brek Shea is going to be a very, very, very good player once he grows up a little bit. If the US wants to play a 4-3-2-1, he's the guy on the left behind Landon. Plays good defense, has very good ball skills, and knows when to make runs.

Boyd's heel pass by the way was nuts.

I'm very pleased United got van Persie. SAF usually does a fine job picking up talent and getting the most of them. Bob, I remember United selling Becks and Cristiano Ronaldo at the top of their value as well. Let's hope United can challenge City.
Van Persie is a big gamble. He's not that young, at 29, and he has been injury prone over his career. On the other hand, a healthy Van Persie could easily make the difference in the title race.

Great time to beat Mexico at the Azteca. Right after their Olympic win.

Awesome to play spoiler at their Olympic celebration. It was even better to watch the commentators reflect after just talking about Mexico being ahead of the US with all of mexicos recent success in u23, etc tournaments.

I couldn't believe all the empty seats. I know it was a friendly and not 100% full squads for each team, but I figured they'd come close to a sell-out for the first post-gold medal game.

Valid points. However, SAF seems to hit more than miss when it comes to big transfers. That used to be the different when dealing with the other team in Manchester. City would splash for people only for them to bust. (This theory has gone by the boards since the Iron Sheik took over.) Also, RVP doesn't have to play every game because of United's depth. He can get a break if he gets a knock or just needs rest.

Great defending, and wonderful goalkeeping by Howard. It was just a "friendly," but it was a very important win for Klinsmann and U.S. soccer, especially our young players.
Heck yeah, totally blow up that mental block that Mexico is unbeatable at the hell hole that is the Azteca. Really liven up that rivalry with them. Of course they'll put a little more effort in it next time and beat the USA 6-nil the next time we play down there.

It does make for a nice little kick to the Jimmy for Mexico.

SAF has had his share of busts (Veron, Forlan, etc.). Until recently though he had the deepest pockets, so his misses didn't hurt as much. I'm not saying he doesn't do a good job, just that everyone misses at times in the transfer markets.

Mexico is currently experiencing a shortage of Ziploc bags. Thus the fans had nowhere to put their p!ss and didn't come to the game.

Re: World Soccer XXIII - "Pay" Up Pompey?

There are 4 matches on Fox Soccer tomorrow. I'm excited.

And Portpin's withdrawn its bid for the club, leaving only the Supporter's Trust to buy Pompey. While that may be a good thing, I don't know if the Trust can actually run the club. I don't think they have enough funds.

Still, the League 1 Campaign starts tomorrow, and Pompey actually has players! They've gotten quite a few players on loan, along with a bunch of their youth squad. I would be thrilled with just staying in League 1 this season, especially with that 10 point deduction. Hopefully it can happen.
