Re: Official 2012 Miami Off-Season Thread

So i have decide to break my off season vow of silence
mostly because I'm bored / have moved on from the post season woes / and i really like predicting lines

Thus, this is how i would line em up if i was the coach (probably proves why I'm not the coach), and assuming i know close to nothing about the incoming freshman which is mostly
    true

Mullin - Czarnik - Paulazzo (I'm telling you, this would work well)
Kuraly - Coleman- Wideman (Potentially awesome chemistry)
McKenzie - Hagel - Mason (Shut down checking line/leadership)
Barber - Gacek - Murphy (Fast and skilled)

Hartman - Spinell (The obvious top D pair IMO)
Paulides - Kennedy (Actually a solid pairing assuming Kennedy improves at least slightly)
Sieloff - Caito (I have no idea who is best amongst freshman D, they must be better than Bingham though right?)

*If the goalies can transition/cope quickly, and someone will step up as a leader
we will finish in the top 16, mark my words, there's a **** ton of talent still left on the team
(For all we know Max Cook gives unbelievable intermission speeches)

    So there you have it
PS i never got to vent about biggs leaving, def a kick in the nuts, especially when you go and mock up lines and see where he could've been. (top line IMO)

Oh and i nearly **** myself thinking about what could've been if somehow some way those top two could've played with Smith for another year.... literally **** myself
**** high level program where good players actually leave early

PS #2- GO JACKETS WEST (The notion that the Coyotes could win the cup... downright comical... but awesome)

done ranting now feel free to bash the hell out of what i just said
    Scalp On, My Friends

Sieloff is projected as an early 2nd rounder. Stay at home defenseman, known for dropping the hammer despite his relatively small stature, should be an impact defenseman once he gets his feet wet.

Caito posted some respectable numbers (59 GP 7-19--26) in the U this season and may be the closest thing we have to a puck mover until the youger Joyaux gets to campus. FWIW, he went in the USHL 1st round last year.

I don't know much about C. Joyaux. Based on stats and pedigree you'd imagine he's the odd man out to start the season, but at 20 years old he may be more ready to jump in after two weeks of practice than Caito, I can't see Sieloff sitting, but thats all conjecture at this point.

      ----------------------------------------------------------------
Something interesting about our D-corps after this season:

      Paulides - 6'2
      Sieloff - 6'0
      C. Joyaux - 6'0
      Hamilton - 6'0
      Caito - 5'11
      M. Joyaux - 5'8
      2013 D Recruit (Johnny Wingels??) - ??

Seems like a bitt of a marked departure from the 6'2-6'4 towers we've had on the blueline in recent years. Hamilton and M. Joyaux may still be growing.

Looking a few years down the line, I stumbled across this scouting report/video this morning: Louie Belpedio

        Slow day, why not?

        Mullin - Czarnik - Barber
        Kuraly - Coleman - McKenzie
        Wideman - Hagel - Paulazzo
        Mason - Murphy - Cook

        Hartman - Sieloff
        Spinell - Paulides
        Kennedy - Caito

Gacek and Morris take over for Cook and Mason by November, if not earlier.

Experience paired with youth on the blue line.

Voilà! Your 2012-2013 CCHA Champion Miami RedHawks.

Interesting combinations. I am optimistic about Gacek cracking that lineup. He seems to be fulfilling some of the potential and expectations for him. I also look for Joyaux to be in the lineup quite a bit.

Looks like we are playing OSU, Penn State and RoMo in Pittsburgh over the holiday break this year. Matchups still TBA, but I'd imagine OSU will play Penn State in the first game for attendance purposes. That should just about round out our non conference slate.

Pretty solid playoff line so far for McKay: 7-2, 1.97 GGA, 0.925 SV

22/24 and 26/26 in games one and two of the Clark Cup finals. Games 3 & 4 are this weekend.

That tourney just sounds bad. Another almost guaranteed non con game against OSU just like the ohio hockey classic days.

Interesting quote out of Hockey East land in regards to UCONN joining up.

“Once we made the move to 11, we had to make the move to 12,” Scarano said. “We knew that. We had talked to Notre Dame and Miami of Ohio and when Miami elected not to join us, we had to cast our attention elsewhere.”

Well that would have certainly changed the dynamic of the HE curse.

                            0-28 in conference play, wahoooo!!!

With all blow back on this board from Hockey East posters over NOTRE DAME disrupting their busing conference footprint, can you imagine if we had gone along as well? Would have defiantly needed some popcorn for that collective meltdown.

Good arguments to be made either way, but I prefer where we ended up.

Also, congrats to Ryan McKay. Stopped 22/24 shots last night in game 5 to help the Gamblers win the Clark Cup.

Final playoff line of:12 GP 9-3 2.07 GAA .922 SV

Dave Peterson Goalie of the Year, presented by Bauer Hockey

Ryan McKay backstopped the United States Hockey League’s Green Bay Gamblers to the 2011-12 Anderson Cup as the league regular-season champion. Weeks later, he was named a co-recipient of the USHL Goaltender of the Year award and completed his junior hockey career by carrying the Gamblers to their fourth Clark Cup title as USHL playoff champions. McKay’s led the USHL with a 2.18 goals against average during the regular season, which contributed to Green Bay posting the league’s best goals against mark. His .920 save percentage ranked second in the USHL by a thousandth of a point. In the playoffs, McKay maintained his consistency, winning nine of 12 starts to clinch the Clark Cup for Green Bay. His 81 career wins are tops all-time in Gamblers history. McKay was a member of the U.S. Junior Select Team that finished in third place at the 2011 World Junior A Challenge. He posted a 2-0-0-1 record with a 2.68 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage in the tournament. McKay will play college hockey for Miami University starting in 2012-13.
