Rick Bennett's contract has been extended through 2018-2019.
Great news and obviously well deserved. Jim McLaughlin has become very proactive in nurturing the hockey program and deserves a lot of credit. From what I understand most of these coaching contracts are one way deals meaning the coach can't be dismissed but can in fact leave if another more desirable offer comes along. Still I am very hopeful that Coach will be around for a good long while. Hopefully he can keep his staff intact as well.

Nice story on Union recruit Tyler Hynes playing through the pain of playing with a broken hand during AA baseball's playoff run. Mentions his hockey future.

Thanks for the link.. he certainly sounds like a tough kid who just does whatever it takes to compete. Interestingly, I'd read somewhere else that U recruit Jeff Taylor (Hynes teammate at AA) had also broken his hand. Dubuque in the USHL had a lot of injuries near the end of the season and inquired about Taylor joining them since he was on their affiliate roster, but he couldn't because of the injury. Will be interesting to track both of these players next season in juniors. All going well, both will be in the USHL - Taylor at Dubuque and Hynes at Omaha.

And some more recruit scuttlebutt.. on the UNH Recruits thread, there was a pretty a lively discussion about a UNH recruit that decommitted and (according to HokyDad) was later offered a "good package" to come to Union next season. The player reportedly turned it down because he is looking for a full-ride to a HE school and will spend next season in the USHL. This was a good forward from the Boston area who put up pretty impressive numbers in High School.. so not a big surprise that he is looking for a HE school. Still a good a sign that the coaches are trying to repair the loss of Johnston and are not afraid to go after fish that HE schools are also after.

I saw Taylor on the ice 3 weeks ago (in full gear) and I didn't notice anything that would suggest a broken hand. Of course it could've happened after that. IIRC, he missed Alb. Aca.'s playoff run 2 seasons ago with a broken (wrist?).
Brandon Pirri: Turk would give it to Jagr. That's awesome! Jagr's untouchable. And he would give it to Jagr.

Yeah, it sounded like a funny coincidence to me too but here is the link..

Believe it, this staff will not be sitting on their hands.

Gostisbehere getting some draft love @ http://unitedstatesofhockey.com/2012...u-should-know/

                  In part,

Central Scouting did not list the Union freshman in its mid-term ranking, but put him at No. 148 in its final ranking. NHL clubs might not want to wait too long to pick up this defenseman who might not last past the mid rounds.

Jeff Taylor made Dubuque's (USHL) 30-man roster after the tryout camp. Next cut is on July 1st when the rosters go down to 25. Dubuque looks to have a pretty good team, so hopefully he sticks and picks up some good experience before coming to Schenectady. The USHL is definitely a great league for developing d-men.

It looks like Tyler Hynes was not at Omaha's tryout camp, perhaps due to his injury (?). Not sure what to read into this or where he could ultimately end up. There had been talk of him going to BCHL and would think EJHL could be possible too..

I think Ghostbuster getting drafted would actually work to Union's benefit. If he remains undrafted he would essentially become a free agent and if he continues to develop as we hope and anticipate, he could attract a lot of attention, not unlike Kinkaid and Welsh did over the past two seasons. He is also young and needs to develop physically so I don't see him going pro for at least a year or two and hopefully three. I do believe his upside potential his huge.

It would also "look" good for the program to bring a guy in that improves there and gets drafted. Gostisbehere (assuming he's really 160 pounds as listed) probably could comfortably put on another 20-25 pounds. As good as he was last year, it'll be interesting to see what he can do with a year under his belt.

Speaking of next year, it was said via Twitter that season ticket brochures will be out "shortly."

As a diversion during this hockeyless time of year I thought this was an interesting thread. http://board.uscho.com/showthread.ph...Mount-Rushmore.

Basically, who are the 4 individuals you would consider on Union Hockey's "Mount Rushmore"? I would throw out Ned Harkness, Nate Leaman, Jeremy Welsh and Brock Matheson. Harkness was like the prince of light and prince of darkness rolled into one, but without his contribution, Union Hockey may never have been reborn after a several decade hiatus. True he nearly singlehandedly imploded the system as well, but maybe he was just ahead of his time. Nate Leaman and Jeremy Welsh are locks in my view for obvious reasons and Brock Matheson for his lockdown D and leadership as Union turned the corner from laughingstock to serious foe. Others who come to mind are Trevor Koenig, Mario Valery Trabucco, Keith Kinkaid, and Kris Mayotte. I have left off the list present team members who should have a chance to complete their contributions before being taken into consideration. Troy Grosenick and Mat Bodie seem likely members of the panthenon.
