  • Four Nations Cup

Tournament will be held November 1-5 at various arenas around Vierumaki, Finland. USA players will have practice sessions on October 24, 25 & 26 (which makes me wonder, why the five day gap between their last practice and the first game). Three current college players - Megan Keller, Annie Pankowski and Lee Stecklein - have been named to the team and they are not scheduled to join the team until the 28th, so they will miss all the practice sessions. I assume this was negotiated to minimize the number of college games they would miss? All three are obviously critical to their team's success, and hopefully their short-term absence won't affect their won/loss record. Still, I sure wish the tournament would be held during the holiday break, or if that's not possible (?) the teams would all agree to not use college players during their seasons.

Also, three younger players - Cayla Barnes, Taylor Heise and Grace Zumwinkle - have been invited to participate in the practice sessions only and will return to their junior/high school teams when the camp is over.

Totally agree that they should either change the timing of this event or exclude NCAA players from participation. Honestly, this is a non-event with no real traction from a fan perspective and most players probably do not relish leaving their college teams to attend. The risk of injury is also relevant as I am sure Harvard fans can attest having lost a top forward who was injured at one of the prep camps.

At least for BC, there's no point in missing the practice sessions, since Keller would miss 4 games either way... That's obnoxious.

And once again the BU games are during Four Nations so that's just swell.

            Re: Four Nations Cup

US over Sweden 6-0 some girl named Brandt (I think) netted 2 as did some other named Knight (those names sound familiar, any reason I should know them?) Megan Bozak also scored so it was a nice warm up game for the team.

Canada had to *gasp* come from behind against Sweden to win 3-1.

Saturday's matchups are now set with the expected pairings (USA-CAN & FIN-SWE). Both pairs will still have their round-robin games on Friday as well.

Saturday's games have been moved to Järvenpää, for what it's worth.

After two USA and Canada are tied 2-2. The Americans had a strong edge in possession and offensive zone play, especially early, but couldn't capitalize on at least a half-dozen great chances. A defensive breakdown led to Canada's goal that tied it.

Ah, that's too bad, well I guess she'll have to stay with BC next year instead of going to the Olympics, no doubt about it.
