I've done a ton of reading on pro football in the 1960's, probably because I regret having missed such a pivotal time in the NFL surpassing MLB as the nation's #1 sports venture. The stories about how Green Bay players were part of their community - something largely encouraged by their coach, who...

As I'm sure you know, back in the days of Unitas, the Colts were ingrained in the community like regular neighbors. Many worked in the city in the offseason, since their NFL paychecks made that necessary. They were very much local heroes.
I made a similar trek to Montreal about 20 years...

I like the way you're thinking, Scott. My heart is with your analysis ... my head is with e.cat's sobering take.
Now that I've seen her tweet on X ... I will only say it's interesting she did not mention Coach in her tweet. Considering he is apparently a HEA COTY candidate (as 'Ref points...

All in all, I've pretty much left this alone for awhile now, although I admittedly did give Fortier a pile of grief about it initially. I thought at the time (and still do FWIW) that it's an odd selection to have a middle-aged guy in his condition working as somewhat of a role model for some of the...

Just guessing ... if he is gone, we should hear this week. No reason to keep him hanging on in limbo. No one deserves that. I think AD Rich met with Coach Herrion shortly after his tourney was done, and the announcement followed shortly after. I'm guessing - just guessing - she will do the same...

This looks like a fun, harmless discussion I can add to, as I'm about the same age as you guys then. My first front-to-end Super Bowl watched was SB IV a year later, when the Chiefs upset the Vikings. First, background ...
My Dad was a Lombardi/Packers fan during the '60's (fortuitous...

But ... DO we trust the coach? And as far as "attracting players", did not Hellsten and Conmy (and others) come to UNH this season, knowing it was Coach Souza's lame duck season?? Is a longer extension going to change the mind of any of the top advisors who dismiss UNH as a legit destination...

I think the program is badly in need of reinvigoration, and preferably with a guy who can sell iceboxes to Eskimos on the recruiting trails, AND also can do in-game coaching in a tactically astute manner. UNH hasn't had either of these qualities in place with its HC for a long, long time. Personally,...

Don't rule it out ... after all, if the rumors prove true and MS7 somehow parlays a slightly-above-mediocre season into a new deal, he's gonna be in need of a raft of new excuses by the time the next extension rolls around. This is one cat ('Cat?) who seems to have somehow been allotted way more than...

Good to know, I'll file that down. Before fading out entirely to focus on the upcoming MS7 decision, maybe some of you kind folks would give my regards to your gutless "deep thinking" hosts at the NCAA's next week, OK ...

"Cheering" is exaggerating the point, but the more you yap, the more you risk discrediting the rest of the UMaine fans. BTW I'm pretty confident I know more of them than you do, for whatever that's worth, bubble boy.
Coach Barr's growing success at UMaine puts more pressure on...

Actually, groovy, everyone on here pretty much remembers there was something like a rivalry. Some folks from your side might insist (and not without reason) that the "rivalry" hasn't been much of one, as one team has won almost all the big games (and tonight strengthens that BTW).
