Yes, there were seats in the end sections facing the stage but they were pretty awful locations that over the last 30 years or so only sold for the Freakout. It must have been at least a decade back that they were removed and I never heard the rationale for it. It may have been the same time they...

At this point I would assume that either the report that Payant is leaving was in error or he's headed to a Canadian university so he doesn't need the portal. I suppose a third possibility is a low-level minor league (such as the SPHL or FPHL) but I sincerely hope not for his sake....

No, that's not what you said. You said because they didn't announce that they'd cut him off at the knees they must have decided to let him work out the remainder of his contract (3 years IIRC). That is not nuance, it's just a completely ridiculous conclusion. Publicly under cutting your own coach is...Last edited by rpi82; 04-10-2024, 09:33 PM.

Who would say that? Only an AD without a clue is going to publicly announce that the coach is on notice. It would be impossible to recruit or establish leadership in the locker room. If that happens both the coach and the AD should just be fired....

Tonelli was a regular from the moment he arrived at Brown. In addition to the Covid shutdown he missed a handful of games his first couple of seasons with injuries and then was out for about 1/2 of this season. When healthy he's been a productive two-way player, including scoring 2 goals in Brown's...

My first RPI hockey game was in 1976 so it was a surprise to me to discover that Jordan has an uncle Ray (brother of Jordan's dad John of Islanders championship era fame) that played at RPI in the early 70s....

If Cashman can overcome his star goalie signing early, Dartmouth will be very good. Virtually all of their top players were underclassmen....

He'll feel right at home here. Obviously shot quality matters, but at 32.5 shots per game it sounds like FSU's defense was similar to ours....

As unhappy as we are with the state of the program and that includes complaints about player development, Muzzatti is not really an example of that. He didn't have the season we dreamed about, but he absolutely has developed at RPI. He is nearly 2 years older than Wood, but they went in the same draft....Last edited by rpi82; 04-04-2024, 10:45 AM.

I must agree with you on this one. I looked at the list from the portal and there is a top tier (perhaps 10% of the entrants) that will go to top 10 or 15 teams and then a massive crowd that aren't readily apparent candidates to make us better. Hopefully we either get lucky or the staff spots a few...

I'm sure Ralph meant Wood. UConn fans are not happy that he's in the portal. They are convinced that Nashville pushed for this move because he wasn't developing fast enough and they want Cavanaugh's head (for Wood, several other departures and the fact that the program took a clear step back despite...

Assuming AspyDad's post proves correct (including Payant), the turnover will certainly be dramatic. I count only 10 potentially returning guys on the standard undergraduate plan: Muzzatti, Tinling, Hotson, Sullivan, McNeil, Strom, Smolinski, Matta, Goffredo and Watson.
On top of that we...Last edited by rpi82; 03-29-2024, 01:13 AM.

If true the only good news I see here is that virtually confirms Watson is coming back. Even if we are going to bring in a goalie from the portal, it wouldn't make sense to cut our only returning goaltender if Watson is leaving. I will be disappointed if Payant enters the portal because he offers speed,...

I don't know about an RPI legacy linkage, but Dartmouth has a forward named Braiden Dorfman. He scored two goals against us. Since they are both from Nashville it's likely they are brothers....

I see Lauri Sertti is in the portal. He joins the mass of seniors using the last year of the Covid exemption.

Since we hadn't made it to the ECAC final four in 15 years as of 2017, it's kind of an odd statement to say that making it on a consistent basis was a reasonable expectation. However, being competitive for making it to LP and actually doing so at some point in the coming years should have been on the...
