I'm going to throw down the gauntlet right now by saying any team that doesn't bet it all in final jeopardy doesn't deserve a spot in the WCHA.

HA! There have only been two gopher questions.

Interesting, the league never mentions that name in any of its lit. I have always thought that WIHL was the name from inception. I guess I learned something.

The WCHA was born as the Midwest Collegiate Hockey League in 1951 by Colorado College, Denver, Michigan, Michigan State, Michigan Tech., Minnesota and North Dakota. After two seasons, the league changed its name to the Western Intercollegiate Hockey League, which more aptly described its geographical location.
