Tomorrow night's game should be a real barn-burner. UAH and UNO play a very similar game and are certainly not as far apart as one might think. A couple of comparisons may bring this to light.
Goalies: UNO's Dan Ellis, Ranked 17th GAA 2.48 SV% .911; UAH's Mark Byrne, Ranked 18th GAA 2.51 SV% .904. Both of these guys can get hot and dominate another team. Byrne has done that at least 7 times this year with his 7 shutouts. Ellis has one complete shutout and has combined with his teammate for two more. As for scoring, UNO has one person (Brisson) in the top 34 scoring leaders in the country while UAH didn't place one there. UNO has two in the top 32 of their conference and UAH has 8 in the top 34 and 5 of them are in the top ten. What this tells me is that both teams get scoring from many players and neither has a "superstar" they can't do without.
UAH is 5th in the nation in penalty killing and UNO is 11th. Neither team placed in the top 20 in power play scoring. UAH does have a guy tied for 4th in short-handed goals so you know he's a threat one on none. I expect a close, hard fought, physical game with the hot goalie making the difference. It will be interesting.
No matter how this game turns out, I expect to see the Chargers in the Bullpen next year to repay the Mav's for their appearance in Huntsville this year. I think these two teams can have a very good non-conference rivalry. I'm looking forward to another trip to Omaha.
Now, where did you say the Hooter girls went?...
