Well, if Team BK doesn't pick a question, we'll finish out By the Numbers for 50 for the last question today.

Where ya been bill? Me and Eric figured you'd rock this category, with Alton and Sidious not playing (-;

By the numbers for 50 is fine.

Again, anyone from Team BK who wants to pick- feel free.
They're upgrading the firewall & clients are running around the building today & tomorrow. I will not always be available.

By the Numbers---50 pts:

Name 2 of the 3 current CCHA schools that do not have a former player's name on the Stanley Cup.

It looks like Miami is also on that list... http://www.ccha.com/beyond/stanleycup.htm

What's the deal, fact checkers?

First, I apologize for not correcting the question to read '4' instead of '3'. That was my bad; I should have delegated to one of the more qualified fact-checkers (that would be Eric, Alton, jen, and Lord Sidious---thanks again guys). The correct answers are:

UNO, Ferris State, Notre Dame, and Miami.

Kevin T:

Believe it or not, Shawn Chambers in 1999 with the Stars. And because you answered before sulli (who was correct BTW), it's the official Team SLU answer.

Annette was correct, but late.

So, now that everyone's probably irritated with me (including me), I need to take off. Let's go with 1:00 (2:00 EST), 2:00 (3:00 EST), 3:00 (4:00 EST), 4:00 (5:00 EST), and 5:00 (6:00 EST) for tomorrow. No questions on Friday; sorry folks. I'll post as soon as I get a chance on Monday and we'll work out a schedule for next week.

Team BK still controls the board, and everyone is probably quite pleased to be moving to a different category.

Team BK - 70 pts
Team Screw_bill - 50 pts
Team SLU - -90 pts

Yeah, but you still don't get the points Annette because you didn't answer in 5 minutes.

Bah humbug...

Maybe I spent those extra two minutes trying to figure out why I was coming up with four teams...

Actually, I wasn't at my desk...

why is ther e a 5 min rule?

to prevent looking stuff up in media guides?

Hey, Shawn is on the Cup twice. He won the Cup first (and probably contributed a little more to it) in 1995 with the New Jersey Devils. While former Hobey Baker winner Neal Broten was the key acquisition that season, Chambers was also a help.

You're probably right Bill.
I also think it was to take away some of the 'modem speed' advantages some people may have. It doesn't quite work out that way though.
I've had more than enough time on most questions to look up the answer. I have good reference sites bookmarked and a T1 line.
If I was answering from home, I would not have enough time to look things up.

I personally don't like the 5 minute rule. If you know the answer, then you don't need any time. If you don't know it, go ahead and look it up. Anyone who DOES know the answer will answer first, no matter how fast you can look things up. I'd much rather take the chance that someone is going to answer first while I look up the answer than toss out a guess just to make the five minute cut-off. Answering wrong subtracts points. Not answering or having the other team answer first subtracts nothing.

Sorry guys )-:

Control remains with Team BK---choose again.

Spaceman:

5 minutes to answer, but sometimes I can't get here right away.

Team BK - 70 pts
Team Screw_bill (Hello out there) - 50 pts
Team SLU - -40 pts

Jen - just going through this tonight, and I think you may have miscalculated Team BK's score. I believe they were at 80 and not at 110 going into this question, so if they lost 40 points ...

... then they should be at 40 points total score at this time.

Check it out and let me know if you agree ...

Regarding the 5 minute rule:

I originally put it in just to stay in line with the TV Jeopardy format, which gives the players approx. 5 seconds (?) to answer. It is completely arbitrary, that I will admit!

Actually, the only discussion we'd had on this in prior games has been to the point that it seemed fairly irrelevant, because a majority of the answers were coming in within the first 2-3 minutes. If anything, I'd been considering tightening up the time in the future to a smaller window, but with some of the comments here, maybe 5 minutes is actually a pretty decent standard after all?!? http://www.uscho.com/board/ubb/confused.gif

It's a "done deal" for this year's games, but if we do this again in the future, all of this input does help us try to make this a better, more enjoyable game (I hope).

Keep those cards and letters coming!! http://www.uscho.com/board/ubb/smile.gif http://www.uscho.com/board/ubb/smile.gif

I checked it out.
I agree that there was a miscalculation.
Prior to the 40 point question, team BK had 80 points. The 40 point question was answered incorrectly during the alloted time.
The BK score would then be 40 pts. (80-40)
The following question was for 50 points. Team BK did not answer during the alloted time period. No points were lost. Correct?
The BK score should be 40 pts.

I think you are correct, the next answer was too late to be scored right or wrong. http://www.uscho.com/board/ubb/smile.gif

Revised score (?):

Team Screw_bill 50
Team BK 40
Team SLU -90 (ouch!)
