Moon Township, Pa. - Sept. 15, 2011 -- For the first time in Robert Morris history, the Colonials men's hockey program will have representatives competing for NHL roster spots as RMU alumni Nathan Longpre, Denny Urban and Dave Cowan have been invited to their respective teams' main training camps, set to open on Friday. All three players earned their invitations after impressive showings at NHL rookie camps, Longpre with the Vancouver Canucks and Urban and Cowan with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
"I'm incredibly happy for these three guys, and I couldn't be more proud of them. They have made the most of their opportunities and are now being rewarded for their hard work and dedication," Robert Morris head men's hockey coach Derek Schooley said. "All three are great people and great players, and I look forward to following them as the season progresses."

Longpre, who closed the 2011 Young Stars Tournament with Vancouver on Thursday, was among the Canucks' offensive leaders with three points and two goals in three games at the five-team rookie tournament. After posting 40 points in 35 games for the Colonials as a senior and earning Atlantic Hockey Defensemen of the Year and First Team All-AHA honors, Urban joined the Reading Royals of the ECHL and recorded nine points in 14 games and helped the Royals to the semifinals of the Kelly Cup playoffs. While Longpre isn't with the Canucks any more, He may be catching on with the AHL Wolves. Here ffrom the Vancouver Sun blog "Pass it to Bullis" - http://vansunsportsblogs.com/2011/10/05/invitee-update-karel-st-laurent-released-nathan-longpres-tryout-continues/

The Canucks sure seem to like AHA players, with RITs Chris Tanev 3rd line D, and Steve Pinizzotto on IR, and now Longpre from RMU. Nice to see guys we all root for keeping their Hockey dreams alive at the highest levels.
