The camp just finished, is this a list of all invitees or does it reflect some cuts?

Does anyone have any reports from the camp?

This was the list of invites, not a list of what is left after cuts. This first camp was a conditioning camp. Next Camp in July will be the next step in the selection process for the team. The invites to that camp will come out at a later date (last year invites were announced in early July).

From HC site:
http://www.hockeycanada.ca/index.php/ci_id/61365/la_id/1.htm

"Hockey Canada will also use the camp as an opportunity to get to know the players and give them off-ice training techniques, as well as proper nutritional guidance. Using the 2008-09 on-ice evaluation and performance at this camp, Hockey Canada officials will make their selections for an July under-18 camp, which will lead to selections for the National Women’s Under-18 Team for the 2009-10 season."

Any one else notice that Hockey Canada is still having trouble recognizing the JWHL? The three girls invited to the U18's from the JWHL are listed as coming from "Midget AAA" teams on Hockey Canada's website. Beleive me this was not an oversight...

None of the US leagues are listed as Detroit Little Caesars is in the Tier I/former MWEHL. All teams in the JWHL have permission from their Provincial governing bodies.

Hockey Canada made the announcement today on the 42 player roster for the U18 Selection Camp in Calgary later this month. From this camp, 22 players will be named to play the US in August.

Could someone remind me what the process is and where it stands for finalizing the US U18 team?

The various players that will eventually make up the U18 Select team that will play in Calgary will come from the National Development Camps (or Select Camps as some call them) being held in Blaine, Minnesota this year. The 16s and 17s have already had their camp, with the 15s coming up soon. Once the camps are completed, the rosters will be announced. If they follow the way it has been done the past two years, those players selected will then attend the National Women's Festival in Blaine for a camp prior to the series with Canada.

The Team Canada U18 Selection Camp started this past Thursday in Calgary with fitness testing, and continues through to this Thursday. The 40 players have been divided into 2 teams with a variety of daily practices, and are also playing several games, 5 on 5, 4 on 4, or 3 on 3 over the course of the week. Game reports from Saturday and Sunday games are now posted. On Saturday, White edged Red 4-3 in overtime. Red prevailed 3-1 over White on Sunday.

A bunch of these players flew directly from Calgary to Boston to play in the Chowder cup. Some will then be at the final Ontario U18 Tryout camp starting this coming Wednesday. Three events in two weeks. Who said Hockey is not a year around sport ?.

Just noticed the announced roster for the US U-18's on the other thread ... 8 kids either 93 or 94 out of 23 total. A different strategy than TC as they only had a three or so in their top forty five. One would think that that number should be higher in order to expose next years crop to the process. There are easily several more 93's out there that were as good as what was picked.

The talent pool of 92's in Canada, and especially in Ontario is very deep. The players were notified yesterday if they made the cut or not. Expect a formal announcement on the roster from HC within days.
