Might as well start this up. I'm sure it'll be on the second page soon enough :) I was checking out Marian's website to see if they had listed any recruits yet, and I saw that they have their schedule up for next season. I guess that answers how the new conference schedule will be set up.

Looks like every team plays eachother twice, either at home or on the road. No home and away. Curious now who Superior will have at home.

Given that the coaching announcement only came out March 9th, the coach hasn't had much time to recruit. Do you know if they had an existing club program to build on? That area of Wisconsin has always had a good sized pool of players available and no "local" playing option.
And having been in hockey in the area for a number of years, I'm betting the coach knows all the local talent and has been ringing players and coaches since day 1.
I take it that they are playing at the fairgrounds? I haven't been there in a long time (since they had the old barn - the one with the really low ceiling).

All home contests shaded in gray and are played at the FDL Blueline Family Ice Center.
-The Blueline Ice Center is located near the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds at 550 Fond du Lac Avenue.
FDL-Waupan has been a pretty prominent WI hockey team I believe so I'm sure he'll be bring players over from there. I'm curious how the addition of St Norbert next year will think out the WI hockey crowd down in that area. WI hockey is no MN hockey. I'm not 100% but I don't think they had any club hockey before.

While the 2 schools are near each other geographically and they have a few programs that overlap, there isn't as much competition for students as you might think. St. Norbert is a traditional LAC. Perhaps St. Norbert's will keep more of the Milwaukee area girls from heading east or to Minnesota for a LAC education, as I've seen quite a few show up on the DIII commitment list, with very few (if any?) staying at the Wisconsin public DIII's.

I'm just thinking with Concordia-WI, Marian, and SNC all picking off kids from that area its gonna get thinned out pretty quick...and of course you got the really good kids gettin recruited by more established quality programs. I don't think Lake Forest takes many Wisco kids, but I know they show up on Point, EC, and Falls roster...and occasionally superior's.

I don't know gojackets, the girls from northern and western Wisconsin seem to stay in the region, although when looking at the 5 school's rosters (4 publics + Concordia) you are not seeing but 1 girl on an occasional roster from the Wisconsin Wild, and strangely enough no girls listing the Madison Capitols as their previous team. And looking at the BTD DIII commitments page, it would appear that only 1 girl from the Wild stayed in Wisconsin (Superior) and she was from Little Chute. Meanwhile 2 Wild girls went to Bowdoin, 1 to GAC, 1 to Augsburg, 2 to St Kates. And the 1 girl from the Caps went to Chatham.
Doesn't say much for staying in-state and close to home.
Perhaps SNC will give some competition to the Minnesota LACs and the Eastern LACs for the SE Wisconsin talent.

I know Superior mainly looks to canada for recruits as well as some local talent and people from the cities.

St. Scholastica to Join Women's Division in 2010-11
Saint Paul, Minn. (April 23, 2009) – The Chief Executive Officers of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association member institutions have reviewed the College of St. Scholastica’s application for admission to the Women’s Division and have voted unanimously to admit the Duluth, Minnesota school. The Saints will begin conference play in the 2010-11 season.
St. Scholastica’s women’s program will be part of the fourth expansion year in NCHA Women’s history. It is the fourth program granted admission to the league since last December; the addition of the Saints will make an eleven-team Women’s Division for the 2010-11 season.
Marian University (Fond du Lac, Wis.), Adrian College (Adrian, Mich.) and St. Norbert College (De Pere, Wis.) were all granted admission to the Women’s Division since last December. Marian and Adrian will begin play this fall while St. Norbert will join in 2010-11 with St. Scholastica.
“We are most happy to welcome the College of St. Scholastica to our Women’s Division as we continue the growth of women’s hockey in our conference,” said NCHA Commissioner Bill Kronschnabel.
The NCHA has automatic qualification status for the NCAA Division III tournament, which UW-River Falls earned by winning the O’Brien Cup playoffs this past season.
Previous expansions included Finlandia in 2003 and Concordia-Wisconsin in 2007. The original members of the Women’s Division, opening play in 2000, were Lake Forest, UW-Eau Claire, UW-River Falls, UW-Stevens Point and UW-Superior.
St. Scholastica will practice and play home games at Mars Lakeview Arena in Duluth, which is also used by the Men’s program. The Men’s program has been in the NCHA consecutively since 1994, with previous membership from 1983 to 1991.

Hey folks. Running a blog throughout this upcoming season (and probably the following season) talking all things D-III. And I'm looking for someone to be something of a Western correspondent. Just keeping me aware of things going on out there. Obviously I can find results of the games, but I want inside details, how games are looking and things like that.
Check out my blog if you're interested. And let me know. Thanks.

Ryann McCarthy Passes Away after Battle with Cancer
McCarthy played goalie for the Foresters from 2006-08
Ryann McCarthy LOMBARD, Ill. - Lake Forest College women's hockey player Ryann "Ry" McCarthy passed away Tuesday (July 28) due to complications from cancer that was diagnosed last fall.
A Lombard, Illinois, native and graduate of Willowbrook High School, McCarthy came to the College in 2006 after helping lead Team Illinois to a state championship.
McCarthy played for the Foresters from 2006-08 and is the program's career leader in save percentage, goals against average, and winning percentage. She recorded two of the top four single-game save totals in team history late in the 2006-07 season and ranked seventh in the nation in save percentage that year. A fierce competitor, McCarthy was forced to stop playing last year due to her illness, but she could often be seen cheering on her fellow Foresters.
"We are extremely saddened by the loss of this extraordinary young woman and important part of our campus community," began Athletic Director Jackie Slaats. "We will miss Ry’s fiery red hair, energetic personality, great sense of humor, and passionate spirit."
"As a player, Ry was one of the most competitive and talented goalies I have ever coached," began Forester head coach Carisa Zaban. "She loved hockey and it showed in her attitude and her work ethic. Outside of hockey, Ry was one of the most amazing individuals I have ever met. Her smile and laughter were infectuous and she touched many people's lives with her upbeat attitude and terrific sense of humor. I will never forget her and what she has brought to my life."
Ryann McCarthy, loving daughter of Terry and Sue McCarthy; dear sister of Samantha; granddaughter of Georgene and the late James "Red" McCarthy, Margaret and the late Jerry Fric; fond niece and cousin of many. Ryann was loved by all her friends, teammates and especially her dog Wrigley. Family and friends will meet Friday for 10 a.m. Mass at St. Joseph Church, 4801 Main St., Downers Grove. Interment Queen of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorials to the H Foundation, Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center at Northwestern University, 60 S. LaGrange Rd., LaGrange, IL 60525, are appreciated. Arrangements by Adams-Winterfield & Sullivan Funeral Home.

Well its gettin to be that time of year where I lay out my picks of where the NCHA will finish out. Ridicule me...comment...its where I see things going.
#9 Marian
The Sabres will enter NCHA play for the first time ever this year...and find out how difficult it is. I don't see them faring too well this year...maybe splitting with Finlandia or Concordia.
#8 Finlandia
The Lions took a big step backwards last year and I don't forsee them making any leaps ahead anytime soon.
#7 Concordia-WI
The last of the easy 3. Concordia's inaugral class is growing up, but I don't believe they are ready for the big time yet. That included with a large recruiting class, doesn't equal success in my mind. Maybe this year they can get over that hump and beat Stevens Point!
#6 Lake Forest
The Foresters have a lot to prove this year. Going into last year a lot of us were thinking pretty highly of them and they kind of let us down. I don't see a lot of improvement in their lineup possibilities, and dont expect to see alot. they have the memory of McCarthy to fight for..so you never know.
#5 Eau Claire
The Blugolds return all but one this year from a team that definitely surprised and beat some good teams for the first 4/5s of the year. I'm hesitant to put them up ahead of the big 4 yet.
#4 UW-SP
The Pointers lost 5 key players from a team that struggled at times last year and some of them are going to be extrememly hard to replace...with no recruits listed on BTD, its hard to put them above 4th here...it might be a little Pointer hatred comin thru on my part but it seems like the most logical pick at this point.
#3 Adrian
The Bulldogs look to jump into the NCHA with a fury and show they belong with the big dogs. With huge wins over GAC, Superior, Point and sweeping of River Falls last year and all their players back...Adrian is definitely a scary opponent in the NCHA this year...I wouldn't be shocked to see them win it all and have the NCAA put the FF a little east of west.
#2 UW-Superior.
I have to put Superior here behind River Falls, as the reigning champs bring back a lot of players. Superior only loses 2, one a pretty big player in goalie Rikki Nespor...oh wait we have that other all-american Kunzlemann to take the reigns full time this year. Couple that with a few more D1 transfers and the 'Jackets could open some eyes this year. They also are blessed with the new NCHA schedule to get both of their Pointer and Adrian games at home this season. Things should shake out early on as they host GAC and head down for two at the Hunt in the 2nd week of the season.
#1 UW-River Falls
You have to put the reigning NCHA champs back at first when they only lose a goalie that never played. Another kind of large recruiting class tells you that Cranston is probably trying to fill the few holes he had in the back ups and is ready to repeat. Should be an interesting season for the Falcons as they have the target on their back for the first time since 2001(?).
Well there ya have it. I'm open for comment. I think it looks pretty good...all I know is that this will probably be all throwin out the window in about 2 months and the NCHA is going to be a wild ride this year.
