is there any tv or streaming online coverage?

TSN will cover Canada's games in the knockout round like usual and the NHL Network should pick up that feed in the U.S.

My understanding is USA Hockey has some form of online coverage of the early games although it will be like NBC's coverage of some of the peripheral events during the Beijing Olympics in that the broadcasters will be in Los Angeles calling the game off of a monitor and some on-site video feed that is patched through to them (not ideal).

Recommend checking the USA Hockey Worlds section (http://www.usahockey.com//Template_Usahockey.aspx?NAV=TU_02_03&ID=24064) for additional information as it becomes available.

Speaking of Olympic coverage, we should start the write, e-mail, call campaign to have you as the women's hockey broadcaster for NBC in Vancouver.

Great idea, but a waste of ink I'm afraid.

The Olympics would seem to be in the best hands anyway as NBC has Mike Emrick back doing PBP. Also I'm told Al Michaels will be doing some hockey as well given his connection to 1980 and now that he's an employee of NBC Sports. AJ Mleczko will be doing color again.

Personally, I'd rather hear the women's game called by somebody who understands it, rather than by a "name" announcer. Mike Emrick at least seems to give the game some credit; I can only imagine how Al Michaels would sound. But none of the nationally known announcers are going to be aware of 10% of the facts about the players and teams that you have learned over the years.

Exactly. And while Emerick is an outstanding play by play announcer, he has a tendency to dumb down his interaction with his color people, which almost makes him sound as if he doesn't know anything about the nuances of the game. I suppose this will work well with the "casual" fan that is likely to watch Olympic coverage, but it gets old with those of us who know the game and have been spoiled by Brian's insight.

Ok, what say we lobby for Brian as a rink side reporter!

Team BC is averaging 3 points per game right now

Stack has 2 goals and 3 assists in 2 games, and Schaus has (lol) an assist.

Anyone know why Vetter hasn't played yet? EDIT: Nevermind, I found out she had tweaked her knee earlier but she's fine now.

Also, apparently Rugger scored a goal from her own goal line, with a BOOMING slap shot that went into the net in the air. Holy crap!

Because they don't need her too and the apparent backups for the Olympics need some playing time in case they are needed when it counts.

The goalie attempted to make a save......

um not sure what happened on that one.

Rugger shot, I looked down and looked to the Russia end only to see the goalie shaking her head.

I found out she was hurt (not much, but enough to not take any chances) too. Those explanations both probably played a role.

Just one of those things I guess. It probably didn't hurt that it was shot hard enough to go in the net airborne

Wish I could see video of Stack's goals, Schaus' assist, and Rugger's epic blast.

She has been banged up since prior to Boston, however not nearly as bad as Lawler who I am surprised is playing at all.

I will have to ask Christy Jeffries about her again. When she didn't play in the first game I asked and was told that we would see her later in the tournament and that they wanted to give the others more playing time incase they were needed for 2010.

Yep, you could probably get some good pointers by watching that...

Just by reading descriptions, though, it sounds like it was more of a clearing attempt on the penalty kill that was directed at the Russian net rather than any serious attempt at a shot.

If Lawler was banged up in Boston, then I shudder to think at how effective she is healthy. As for Vetter, I couldn't tell that she was hurt during the FF either.

Either way, I think by this point of the season most players are going to be pretty banged up all around.

Either way, I think by this point of the season most players are going to be pretty banged up all around. There are the bumps and bruises, aches and pains that most players are suffering in April. However, Lawler was knocked out of a series vs UM in February with a shoulder injury, reinjured it a couple of weeks later, and left the ice favoring that shoulder as recently as the WCHA tourney game vs UMD. I think that type of injury isn't going to be truly healed until after the offseason and is more likely to be a factor on the ice for a player than the typical ailments. And when she is 100 %, she is a <s>royal pain in the ...</s> truly great player.:D

What was it, a separation or something?I'd guess a very mild one because she wasn't out that long; the Wisco' folks probably know the actual diagnosis. Gigi hurt hers a month earlier and was noticeably hampered for at least a month, but seemed pretty close to 100% by the NCAAs.

Exactly right she was operating at about 60-70% during most of the NCAA run. She had the initial injury and basically it will only heal fully with alot of arm rest and some rehab. Both things are something that's a bit hard to come by for her right now, but she is really doing great despite all the odds against her. Since I talk to her quite often I can say some days are better than others and that as long as she does well with her rehab she will be 110% for the Olympic evaluation process.

What was it, a separation or something?

I can't say and wont say all that I know here, but it was pretty bad initially, healed a bit a then was hurt again and started all over. Initially there was talk of her being out for quite a long time.

Yeah, seems like she should have ample time between the end of Worlds and the Olympic tryouts...
