Mankato's made a coaching change. What's the deal? http://mankatofreepresshockey.blogspot.com/2009/01/vizenor-out-at-msu.html

It will be interesting to see who takes over. I thought Vizenor coached the Mavericks well. They nearly always played Minnesota tough...but had those consistency issues like a few WCHA teams have had. It would be my guess it'll be someone not currently on staff.
My bold prediction.
Congrats to Coach Vizenor on the job that he did at MSU-Mankato. His teams accomplished many firsts under his direction, although they did suffer from the all too common Red Menace problem. If a team's success on the ice was directly proportional to the effort the head coach put out on the recruiting trail, then it is my sincere belief that the Mavs would be a top-10 team. Good luck, Coach.

I had the opportunity to get to know Jeff pretty well, and I agree with you.
A tireless recruiter, very loyal, and a man of faith and great values. Good luck to him. A loss to woman's hockey for sure.

Here's another story on Vizenor. Seems like the players want no part in talking about it. Weird. http://www.mankatofreepress.com/sports/local_story_007222909.html?keyword=secondarystory
Another odd piece....is to chose to leave the team mid season while one of your assistants is overseas recruiting. Altho one of the articles quoted the AD as saying the coach had been contemplating this for a long time so it may very well not be a surprise to anyone directly involved with the program. Changes happen and people adjust.
Wish the Mavericks players and their former coach and the current assistants well!

Having been through a health issue myself (cancer) I'm praying it's not something of that nature. Staying on in the athletic department tells me he doesn't want to be traveling. Eventually the facts will surface, I just hope he & his family are okay.

Uhh... I am 99% sure it wasn't a health related problem.
The fact is the MSU-Mankato women's team hasn't been getting it done.

Best of luck to Coach Vizenor and to the women on that team.
Any ideas on replacements? Have they named one of the assistants the interim for the year?
In the newspaper article, it stated that both assistant coaches will meet with MSU athletic director Kevin Buisman to discuss who will be the team’s interim coach for the rest of the season and then in the spring a search will occur for the position. One of their assistants was overseas on a recruiting trip so guessing an announcement regarding interim will happen this week.
Will the interim turn into a permanent position like they did at U? or will they start anew? Time will tell, I guess.

I've heard some rumors around gustavus that Mike Carrol, the gusties head coach is one of the candidates to replace Vizenor next year.

Pokecheck 101,, your previous posts show you have a little interest
in the Gustavus program as a fan or parent or whatever.
if you really are a somewhat loyal follower ,, why would you even
bring up speculation, rumors, etc. while the season is going on. It
doesn't seem fair to the players, coaches, or school, who seem to be
working hard in the "now" to have a successful year.
Following the current season ,is when most vacancies get filled,,
unless you have facts,, why not hold off on the rumors till then

u act like any of the players read this forum...
Some players have been known to read this forum, and family members definitely do. However, I don't think it is scandalous to suggest that a coach of a successful D-III program may be interested in and/or attractive to a D-I school not many miles away.

I don't have a problem with this either. Makes sense and we all know that some of the rink rumor stuff is actually true!;)

I would agree 'webby'.
Short term the Mavs need to be focused on a strong finish. And I'm sure Gac needs to do the same.
