have you see them play? very different team if we compare to last year, but incredible spirit ,and really a united team nobody was expecting them to perform as strongly as they are without Harbec,Grills,Guay,Wallaceand Guckian I think they'll surprise even more after christmas.

have you see them play? No. Which is why I can't talk about them. I wish those who did watch them would discuss them here, but I've said that enough times over the years. If their fans would initiate the discussion that their play merits, I'd welcome it.

I'll do my best to initiate it, I saw the two games againts Dartmouth and Harvard, incredible games, both fast and to tell you the truth SLU was really outstanding. It was'nt only Chartier who made the difference even if she was solid like a rock, the 5 players on the ice were playing as a unit offense and defense.I think that a lot of those girl are not getting the publicity that they deserve.

How's Ohio State doing out west? The Buckeyes are currently 7th in the WCHA (http://collegehockeystats.net/0809/standings/wchaw) out of 8 teams. They graduated three important players last season in Bonhomme, Keys, and Chesson. Also, they don't seem as set in net as some teams.

Spooner was the only real threat offensively, but SLU were'nt skating like they could

If you compare with SLU they've lost their 2best offensive players and their 2best defense. But the team is still highly competive thanks to some players that nobody talks about. For example Carson Duggan, she broke the record of Harbec in goal scoring, she's got 91 goals in 3 years you don't see her name to often.

The Buckeyes are more heavily dependent on their rookies. They have a very good freshman class, but it is still nice to have veterans like Duggan, Locke, Domenico, Akstull, and Maschmeyer.

Is there any discussable reason why Brittany Chartrier left Minnesota? I haven't seen them play but from reading the reports, she has a great deal to with SLU's success.

During her sophomore season, the team struggled, she struggled, so that probably didn't help. She was a very nice person, and I'm glad that she is finding success and happiness at St. Lawrence.

SLU's success is a constant team effort but it's also between the pipes that it happens, her calm is unbelievable. And some players you don't know about, good freshmens, hard workers, and that number 76 Emard, intense, powerfull ,strong, good offensively, defensively ,the kind of player every coach would take on their team.

St. Lawrence has climbed all the way to No. 3 in the USCHO poll, their highest spot this season. Also, Carson Duggan named ECAC Hockey Player of the Week, deservedly so for her performances against Ohio State.

A few thoughts:

Ohio State could be GOOD in a few years, if and only if, they can get a stud goaltender. They're so, so, so young, but until they solidify someone who can put together 60 solid minutes, they're going to continue to struggle, especially in the toughest conference in the country.

The line of Carson Duggan - Tara Akstull - Alley Bero is becoming one of the best in ECAC Hockey. No one likes to talk about Tara Akstull; she LED THE CONFERENCE last year in assists, had 40 points and DIDN'T receive any all conference awards. Outrageous. For as great as this team's senior class is, Akstull has blossomed into a player to be reckoned with. Meanwhile, Bero is living up to the hype: five straight games with a goal and showing no signs of slowing down.

Colgate and Cornell come to Canton this weekend. With two wins, SLU may find themselves at the top of the standings. However, Colgate has a knack for playing the Saints well (must be a Scott Wiley thing) and is coming off an impressive win over UNH. And all Cornell has is one of the best players in the country in Rebecca Johnston.

If St. Lawrence is truly going to compete for a national championship (and believe me, I understand it is WAY to early to even mention it), they're going to need to improve on their special teams play. 14th ranked power play and 19th ranked penalty killing unit isn't going to cut it come March.

.

My thoughts: I just read RStarr's post and learned that Duggan was player of the week. Well deserved. As I just remarked to Hux - the title of this thread is ever so appropriate to the St. Lawrence modus operandi - play silently and be there in March. Year in and year out.

Your so right, and for that I have to tip my hat to the recruting staff. They may not alway's get the top of the top, but they sure know how to pick up players who will fit perfectelly with what they already have on the team.We have to give credit to Ted Wisner the associate head coach for that

While not the ' majors ' , Colgate and Cornell will be important tests for the Larries . Maintain focus . Win without regard to the jersey opposite . Not always something St Lawrence has excelled at . We all will be watching as so far they are emerging as the best of the east . Two wins required

Not a bad showing this weekend by St. Lawrence against ECAC Hockey opponents Colgate and Cornell. Colgate always always ALWAYS plays SLU tough, and Cornell is much improved and has Rebecca Johnston, who just happened to score a hat trick and almost helped the Big Red beat the Saints for the first time in almost eight years.

But in the end, SLU does what they've done all year: survive. Down two goals with two minutes left against BU? They get a tie, and they pull out a crucial point against Cornell with a goal in the last few minutes. The three-point weekend pulls them into a 3-way tie for first in the conference.

Not exactly sure I agree with the USCHO poll this week that SLU should move down and Duluth up because of the result. Cornell was picked to be one of the most improved teams in women's hockey this year, and though they got off to a slow start, they beat Clarkson on Friday as well. For as good as the Big Red played, they dont even get a VOTE in the poll??? Come on...

Meanwhile, the Saints, who did look sluggish at times this weekend, head to Erie, PA to take on a red-hot Mercyhurst team that NEEDS these games to boost their NCAA tourney chances. This series reminds me a lot of last year's showdown at home against Minnesota Duluth, which unfortunately did not go SLU's way. They lost those two games and never seemed to regroup down the stretch. However, these are the Lakers' last games against ranked opponents, thus they're MUCH bigger to the CHA team without an AQ.

Any predictions?

I agree with you that I wouldn't rank UMD ahead of SLU based on results to date, but unfortunately for SLU, Cornell has been very inconsistent this season, in large part IMHO to their youth. As such they've lost or tied teams in the first half of the season (RMU, QU, Niagara, gave a two goal lead to Dartmouth and didn't play Harvard close enough) to have any serious consideration in the polls at this time and not hurt SLU for tying them. If they take care of business in the second half of the season, I could see Cornell moving into the top 10, possibly, by seasons end. When Cornell is playing well, they are very good.
