It appears that the coaching change at Elmira will have a substantial impact...The new coach seems to be well prepared, on the ice and off.
Very interesting to see what a well conditioned and focused Elmira team can do.

Lets wait until the Scoring Eagles hit the ice for an actual game before we start talking about substantial changes.

While i was in favor of the coaching move Elmira made, I'm not ready to say anything about how drastic the coaching improvement was until I see the girls play some games. The talent is certainly there and I'm hoping to God they can finally get the upperhand on Plattsburgh again.

It's been predominately Plattsburgh for far too long in this series.

GO EAGLES!

Prez: You may have to wait until Blanchard graduates to see the trend change. We may have a better idea how the teams look after the Cardinal Classic , Nov 21-22. Elmira, Midd, Plattsburgh, and Williams..what a great line up. You coming?

All I know so far is that the team is finally on a fitness program and the coach has some systems in place. These things can only help... Conditioning was horrible last year for the most part. Morale was worse. The coach has taken great steps to show who is in charge, with discipline and new expectations. All very positive things. You're correct, it is early yet. The feed back I get is good though. As far as Blanchard goes...phenominal player, but don't forget the excellent supporting cast and a coach that that certainly knows how to coach.

I cannot wait for the chance to get out to Pine Valley 11/1 and see how the Soaring Eagles look this season. The team should have a lot of firepower up front, a seasoned D and Cubberley really came into her own as one of the top DIII goalies last season. The schedule has them facing their top three ECAC-West opponents at home this season, so is it the year for them to reclaim the DIII title?
I always enjoyed Coach Paul Nemetz-Carlson's courtesy and insight (and will miss his dad, Tim Carlson's in-game commentary), but...
Best of Luck to the Soaring Eagles and Coach Greg Fargo!

I know Plattsburgh's first official practice is Monday. Got a chance to catch a captain's skate yesterday. Happy to say Blanch looks better than ever!:D

I guess people can't help but bring up Plattsburgh in the Elmira thread considering the long running rivalry. ;)

Although I don't think that Plattsburgh should be over confident this year. I think it's the end of the line for them. I am going to go out on a line here and say that Plattsburgh will not make it three in a row.

i don't understand...elmira's been practicing already but plattsburgh doesn't start until tomorrow?...i thought they were in the same league and would have the same start date...out here all teams always started at the same time...have the rules changed or do they have different rules out there about start dates within the same league?

It depends on when you start your season.

Elmira has an exhibition game on the 18th. They start their season earlier than Plattsburgh.

that's very different from what our rule was out here in the ncha...our start date for practices didn't depend on when each team's first games were scheduled...iirc all our teams started practices on the same date for fairness in our league no matter when we all had our first games...i don't think you're right about this...you might want to check again about this rule

The key word is official....and I doubt Bill-R is wrong, he knows Plattsburgh like the back of his hand. He mentioned that he got a chance to watch a Captains practice so its likely that the Captains have been holding practice for a week or whatever and the official first practice that includes all the coaching staff starts tomorrow. Is it possible that Elmira has been having Captains practices and not official practices? Also it could be that official practices could not begin before last Monday but that they could begin anytime after Monday at the individual coaches discretion.

Oswego has been having captain's practices/skates since mid-september. Both the men's and women's teams started official practices today.

Elmira was able to start Oct. 1 because they have an exhibition on Oct. 11, which counts as part of their official schedule because you're allowed 25 games and then one exhibition game.

so if a team in that league had scheduled an exhibition game for october 4th or 5th would they have been able to start official practices in september? that seems to be what you're saying...no offense but i really don't think any of you really know what you're talking about and it sounds like you're just guessing...i know i played in a different league but it was only a few years ago and there were rules about when all teams were allowed to start practices so that no team had an advantage over other teams in our league...maybe now we're all seeing why the eastern teams have had more success than western teams...they are starting way earlier and apparently whenever they feel like it based on how early they can schedule their first games...i just checked the elmira website and they do not have a game on october 11 so now i know for sure you don't know what you're talking about

This explains DIII NCAA determinations and I know the NESCAC and other conferences have much different definitions of when practice and seasons may commence.

The NCAA has a separate set of rules concerning Ice Hockey. Those rules should be listed here:
