Myriam Trepanier is also having a good season so far for the Bulldogs on the diamond. On Tuesday she went 2-for-3 with an RBI and on Wednesday she finished with 2 hits, one of which was a two run homerun to left field.
Congratulations to all the current and former Bulldogs who continue to represent in sports other than hockey!

I too was hoping that the US wouldn't centralize until next summer . . . but am not surprised. I hope Carolyn doesnt' get ripped out this year too!!! I guess that's the risk you take when hiring such young, great players into the coaching ranks!!
Good luck Julie . . . we'll all miss you!!!!!!!!!!

I'm feeling optimistic today so I'll make a daring prediction: Iya will be back skating for the 'Dogs when the puck drops to start the '08-'09 season. The incredible Tuominen, Holmlov, Gavrilova line will be re-united and propel the 'Dogs toward a repeat in Boston!!!!!

Didn't see that one coming. Then again, just about everything has surprised me this offseason...and we aren't even a whole month out yet.

UMD has made more coaching changes than usual this year. All of them because the coaches ahve resigned to takre on other jobs. Tanya Bauer, head of the Womens Basketbal team stepped down today. Can't say that I'm too disappointed because let's face it, the season wasn't too spectacular. I'm still hoping the Stromme-Stromme combo will come back. Five coaches in five years can't be too good...
But now back to hockey.
I am excited for the 08-09 season and I too am feeling optimistic that Iya will be back skating in a Bulldog uniform and not one with the Russians :D

Don't know much about Shuler, but I am glad the vacancy was filled quickly. Good luck to her with the National Champion Bulldogs . . .

Leaving a head coaching position for an assistant "head" coach...is there possibly more to the story? Not saying there is...just curious. Perhaps it's something as simple as money?

I was reading a bit on the NU thread trying to sort that out as well, not sure. I can't tell what was happening there.

Obviously I can only comment from the perspective of an NU fan. But that said, there really is not an issue. Laura Schuler is a great person who loves the game and has the international experience. My own personal opinion is that she jumped into the Head Coach role too quickly and it seemed she did not know how to best use the talent on the Huskies. Honestly, working under Miller is going to be a great learning experience for her, because I believe she does have the right personality (ie extreme patience and positive outlook about almost everything) to be a great coach someday once she gets the proper tutelage. She understood that probably. That, mixed with pressure from the NU community plus a familiar face in Miller- it's a good situation for her to move. Again, this is all just my opinion as a Huskies fan. :)
Best of luck!!

Thanks!! That was the general impression I got from skimming the NU thread. I look forward to meeting her . . .

I'm probably just talking to myself . . . (not the first time!) . . . been thinking about UMD's season . . . and decided that the most important goal that was scored in pursuit of the National Championship was the short-handed one by Demeule in the quarter final against Mercyhurst.
Of course lots of "if's" but IF MC scores on that PP instead of allowing UMD to tie the game, they go up 3-1. Given that they scored the next goal too it would have been 4-1 and much less likely UMD could recover from that. Demeule's effort and senior leadership, IMO turned the tide in UMD's favor at that point. There was still a lot of hockey to be played in that game, but it completely changed the complexion of that game. I believe it was in that period that Tuominen got injured and Demeule stepped up to the first line.
UMD will miss Karine Demeule more than is apparent from the numbers she put up. She's a player that was a virtual no-impact 4th line player until mid season 06-7. Then, she realized time was running out and she poured her heart into it. Exemplary leadership.
