...and here I thought it was in fact a winning effort.

It sure was if you are a Gopher/U.S. team fan!

Exaclty! Actually, in the case of national team hockey, I cheer for players not nations. Since Friddy, Irwin and Blais all play for team Canada I was simply referencing that their team played in a losing effort.

It's still hard to believe.. Friddy, Irwin, and Larocque are ONLY going to be sophomores!

There doesn't need to be ;) I want all 'Bulldogs' to do well in International play, but I'm still "patriotic" towards our country.

... I'm still "patriotic" towards our country.Speaking of which, the softball team picked the wrong game to lose to Japan today. I imagine many of those women will be retired by the time the sport makes its way back to the Olympics. And because this is the UMD thread, I saw Marin make a cameo appearance in the game where the US played Canada.

I think Marin's playing the role of cheerleader after each defensive inning, and occasionally a pinch runner . Canada could have definitely used Myriam Trepanier's bat this Olympic season too.

It's usually difficult to even find someone on campus who has time to answer a phone during this part of August.. let alone add a news story to the sports website. I was shocked when I got a person on my first try the other day to pay for my tickets.

I've been playing phone tag with Shannon Miller the last few weeks but we should be taping her offseason interview early next week so look for that on the front page soon.

According to my "reliable sources" many of the players are back on campus, and all are to be back this Thursday pm.

Ancient One,

Why is it that you go up to UMD campus and talk to whoever will and then in turn go home and post everything you were just told on this website? Word is going to get out to Coach Miller, her staff and players as to who you are and I guarantee with the ship she runs they will be told not to talk to you anymore.

Seriously TRUFAX, its like you live with Shannon or something. Ancient One can talk to whomever they want and then post, Shannon can then black ball them, but if this person has a back ground like they show, just be cautious cause they may have bigger connections than even Shannon. I have friends in the military, I have know idea what some of them do (they can not talk about it), but if they are in for long they have big connections. Not just a Chancellor at a small University.

I noticed Iya is not on the roster, could that show problems to come? I remember a long time ago when I was a kid in the cities, the gophers men B-ball team lost a lot for some NCAA violations. I remember Iya being involved with a lot of big wins, what will happen? And if things get pulled what will happen to Shannon and the program???????

Everybody better be hoping and praying, cause the girls that WON it, WON it, but with out Iya, it may have been a much tougher road those first 18 games?

GGGOOOOOO DDDOOOGGGSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know there are people who don't care for the Chancellor because she's a Women's hockey fan, but the News Tribune had a great 2 page story about her in the Sunday paper.

The Kathryn Martin you've never known (http://www.duluthnewstribune.com/articles/index.cfm?id=73506&section=News) mentions a little about the hockey but a lot about the rest of her duties and life at UMD.
