Let's hope this trend continues.

UW was 3-1-1 against the Gophers this season, including a win and a tie at Ridder Arena Feb. 23-24. Wisconsin is currently riding a 10-game unbeaten streak against the Gophers in Minnesota (9-0-1), including a seven-game unbeaten streak at Ridder Arena (6-0-1).

I find it very amusing that Wisconsin publications keep emphasizing the 17-2-1 Badger record since December 1. For comparison, the Gophers are 16-2-3 over that same span.

Now, true, I can't avoid the fact that both Minnesota loses came at the hands of Wisconsin :o , but it just reinforces how evenly these two teams are matched.

And just to show how badly data can be manipulated (or well, depending on your point of view), the Gophers were 21-2-3 since November 17. The Badgers were 18-5-2. ;)

And I won't argue with these, either. They are what they are. :o

There are two precedents for the Gophers playing a WCHA opponent in a national tournament. One, of course, is two years ago, when Wisconsin beat Minnesota in the NCAA title game. The Gophs final 3 losses that year were to the Badgers, and should Bucky win on Saturday, the same would be true again.

The other is in 2000, when the Gophers defeated the Bulldogs in a national semifinal; Minnesota's previous game was a loss to UMD in the WCHA tourney. Coming into the game, the 'Dogs enjoyed a 1-3-1 advantage in the season series, with the Gophers lone win coming on the road. Earlier that season, UMD ended Minnesota's unbeated streak at ... 21 games. It's déjà vu all over again!

In the end, the only stat that is really going to matter is the number under each team's name on the scoreboard when the clock reads zero on Saturday night.

Wisconsin of course will win the season series, but the Gophers are due and will win the game that counts the most. I say 4-2, with an empty netter.

I find it amusing the gopher publications do the same. What does this mean........nothing. :)
