Rutter Division III Women's Ice Hockey Computer Ranking Top Ten

Bit of a delay I looked into Wis-Stevens Pt. falling so far from #1. Things seem to be OK, so I published the rankings.

Through Games of Sunday, January 13th.

Rating is based on wins, loses, and ties only. Margin of victory and game location are not included in the rating. A team's rating from the previous year is used as an initial weight using a Bayesian approach.

Rank Team Rating Previous Record
1 Plattsburgh 2.7649 2 13-1-0
2 Saint Anselm 2.6264 3 12-0-0
3 Middlebury 2.5169 4 10-1-1
4 Gustavus Adolphus 2.3060 5 11-1-0
5 Elmira 2.2095 7 12-2-0
6 RIT 2.1911 6 9-4-0
7 Wis-Stevens Pt. 2.1835 1 11-0-1
8 Amherst 1.5616 9 8-3-2
9 Manhattanville 1.3848 8 8-4-0
10 Trinity 1.2257 NR 9-1-1

Dropped: Wis-Superior

From time to time I hear comments that the top D3 teams are better than the lower D1 teams. I know that there are some, but not a lot of games played between D1 and D3. Is it possible, using your formulas to somehow put ALL of the teams in one ranking to see how the bottom D1 and top D3 would mesh???

I'll take a shot at this. The answer would be no. The calculations in the Rutter rankings take into consideration all the inter-relationships between the schedules of all the teams. That is why at the beginning of the year, I believe some of the affect of prior year outcomes is carried over. If you were to try to pull D-I and D-III together, there is no relationships except for the D-III teams that play Sacred Heart. I do not believe that would give you a very reliable ranking. Hopefully Lakersfan can give a more definitive answer.

UW Stevens Point still unbeaten. 3-1 over Eau Claire. That should drop them another position or two. Right???;) :D :D

ehh just drop all the western teams right to the bottom. Never can compete with the east. Like a JV squad against Varsity.
