When and why did Thayer move to division 2? Do they expect to be more successful there?

More specifically right across the river (and I93) from Plymouth State.

i think you answered the question yourself. You imply that Thayer didn't have success in DI and therefore why wouldn't they move to DII?

It's right between Hebron and Kents Hill. Can't you see it there? ;)

OK, are you kidding me???
Once again, Proctor get the "Proctor, who are they, and where are they?"
For the record... they have beaten: Tilton, Kimball Union, Holderness, Vt. Academy, St. Paul's, Middlesex and Kent's Hill... and you known me... my lip is BLEEDING cause I'm biting it so hard!!!!!!!
I'm thinking, can you really be knowledgable about preps, D1 or D2, if you have no idea about PA? (I am sure PA was inadvertantly left out)
My vote for this poll will be Rivers (for my Uncle's sake, as well as they just maybe, yes maybe, the best D2 team) ... until I get a chance to see them.
They deserve the recognition, and I have coached some kids on this team (great kids, great parents) :D
If I knew how to set up a poll, I would... it would have only the contenteders... not the pretenders.
Leaving them off this poll is like Santa leaving coal in the stocking.... its not only dirty, it stinks!

Why was Proctor left off?
just forgetfulness?
Are there any other DII schools that were left off?
I'm sure that there must be but I cant think of them off the top of my head.
In regards to Thayer. what does a team that is DI have to do to become DII
I mean what is the process? I'm sure you cant just willy nilly jump from division to division .
and for the record I feel Proctor has a very strong team . :D

I don't know but I'll assume there is a committee that you apply to for hockey. Hockey is the execption to the ISL rule. In every other sport, Schools are placed based on size except for hockey. A school can opt up in every other sport for a 3 year time period except hockey.. I'll take a guess, Thayer has not had much succes in DI and maybe trying to get into the division they should be in, DII??? I would guess if you took a look at Thayer history in girls hockey(specfically against DI teams) it would not be strong? Wouldn't it make sense to move to DII??

Its interesting .
I would be interested in knowing what the requirements are for moving either up or down.
I don't know the history of Thayer but I know that schools change over time . I believe that KUA at one time was a DI power house ? correct me if I am wrong about that.
I wonder what causes the shift in a schools hockey program? obviously size has something to do with it.
I do think that we will see much more parity among the Girls prep programs in the next few years.

Regarding KUA... yes, they returned to D2 about 4 years ago, and at one point were a D1 powerhouse.
Regarding Thayer... I have no knowledge of what is going on at that school, athletics or academics.
More importantly, I agree with the parity. Without getting way to deep, there is without doubt parity among D1 and D2. As in our case, I am sure many kids have turned down D1 opportunities.
This comes up every year, and the D1 hard liners will disagree... but you can't argue with those of whom neglect to have open minds... as they say, "The more we listen to fools, the more foolish we become."

We also looked at schools without regard to DI or DII .
hockey was important but not so much that we used it as our only measurement to pick a school.
and as far as parity goes I think you will even start to see it crossing over among the divisions in the next few years . Obviously the top D1 and the Bottom DII have a wide gap but as you get closer to the middle I am certain that you will see players that can play either DI or DII on all the DII rosters .
It is evident that there is a huge bubble of Talent showing up at the prep schools when you look at the amount of players that have signed up for the NEWHL Pre Prep program alone.
