This is for the fans of the the OTHER NON-New England type prep schools - some which are considered "sports academy" type, some which are not considered "sport academy" but are prep schools with strong hockey programs but are not competing in the "New England" prep school league, but sometimes compete in tournaments with the NEPSAC teams

I never thought of Culver as a sports academy, and while they are not a NE prep school, their model is certainly more like that than of a sports academy.

I guess Gilmour would also fall into Culver's line of non-NE prep schools with hockey too.

This poll is for the other prep schools not considered "New England" prep schools - although NAHA is in New England (Vermont) they are not considered "league" games for ranking..

OK, I'll buy that. The best of the rest.

If the poll is "for the other prep schools not considered "New England" prep schools" why don't you use that for the title of the poll?

I don't consider any of the prep schools you list as "Sports Academy type" and I am not sure that every one of your listings is a licensed, accredited private school which they would need to be for me to consider them a prep school.

Well I can speak for NAHA, they are licensed and accredited, by the state of Vermont board of education as well as CITA (http://www.citaschools.org). I can't speak for the other schools listed, but would imagine that they have some type of licensing

I have tried to edit the name of the poll.. The idea was to include the high school girls hockey teams that are competing with the New England prep school teams at tournaments - and those from whom some of the COLLEGE players are recruited from - not intended to disparage any academics or any commentary whatsoever on the schools - just interested in fan support.

However, it is very difficult to comprehend why you would not consider NAHA and National Sports Academy as "Sports Academy Type" prep schools.. But this poll isn't intended as a debate for that - there have been other threads already discussing the benefits of those type schools for college recruiting. Just wanted to include the schools that we see competing in the various tournaments... my apologies for offending anyone!

Sheba, I think you should clog the high school forum with all these polls. They shouldn't be in the college forum.

RPI has recruits from SSM and Northwood, so I'll go with those. Next year, it may be different.

Gilmour is a Private Prep School with high academic standards. It is not a sports academy. They do not provide full rides like Shattuck or Berkshire. You actually need to have grades and the financial wear with all to attend.

So we should assume that your vote would be for Gilmour? They could use a vote so click away.

Poninnville, I hear you about Gilmour. It is an excellent day school with 50 boarders (mainly hockey players and foreign students from what I understand). And yes, they don't provide full rides. And no they do not bend their academic standards for hockey players. I know these facts personally.

I had the discussion with Sheba (see quote above). I don't think she meant to call non-NE prep schools (such as Gilmour and Lawrenceville) something other than a prep school. L'ville is every bit as much of a prep school and is held in as high of academic regard as Andover, Exeter, Choate, Deerfield, or Hotchkiss.

I guess you haven't polled for Gilmour yet. I haven't voted in this poll either, FWIW. Still thinking about it...
