Strange Poll. People must be really really high on Platty this year no matter what happens. I know its just a couple votes, but what did River Falls do to jump Adrian?

I don't see it as being strange. The way I see it, they are trying to recognize that its tough to put Midd ahead of Platty given the outcome of their head to head, even though it was a "pre-season" game for Midd. Likewise, it would be hard to push Point ahead given that their win over GAC was a statistical anomaly. Given all these factors, I think a ranking of Platty, Midd, Point is perfectly appropriate.

I concur. Point will have to continue to play well and win out to jump ahead of Platty & Midd, except if Platty & Midd were to lose to lesser opponents.

I guess what I'll never understand about all college ranking systems is how undefeated teams can be ranked lower than teams with losses. But all I really care about is that RIT is higher than Elmira, and I am pleased that there fourth, it is respectable.

EDIT: The Tigers are now 7-0. It could be personal biased but I think they are getting looked over for a higher ranking.

I thought Middlebury might jump based on the results of the weekend. I didn't expect SP to move into 1st or 2nd.

They haven't played any ranked teams yet! The Elmira games this weekend will give us a better picture of where RIT really ranks.

All I have to say is that they better win and not for the rankings. Old D-III men's rivalry now has to be lived through the women until the Elmira men go D-I, if they ever do. Actually I think the RIT women will go D-I before the Elmira men do.

That's not fair to the women's teams to say that the men's rivalry needs to continue through the women. RIT and Elmira have NO rivalry at all right now on the women's side as they played each other once a year if that over the past few seasons and Elmira won ever game up until last season.

Maybe with both teams being in the same conference it will help but the only true rival the Elmira women's team has right now is Plattsburgh. To lesser extents Manhattanville and Utica too.

I thought it was ridiculous that last year the Plattsburgh fans tried to carry over the men's tennis ball tradition to the women's games against Oswego at the Stafford last year. Rivalries are made between two teams of a specific gender in a specific sport. Don't force something that isnt there and let the two teams build something up between them so that it actually has roots and people know why the rivalry even exists and the history behind it.

Of course, there are across the board rivalries between schools in every sport like Middlebury and Williams, Michigan/Ohio State, Stanford/California etc.

And Elmira will never jump to D1 hockey. The school has an enrollment of 1200. NOT Gonna happen.

You're right that the RIT women and maybe even the entire RIT athletic program would probably jump to D1 before Elmira does.

I wasn't actually around for the rivalry days, I've just heard stories, but I wish I was. If RIT went school wide D1 there would have to definately be facility upgrades across the board, but I'm more interested in just the complete hocley program going D1.

Oh there are plenty of stories:D

EC men's head coach put it best a few years ago when RIT played Elmira for the final time at the Domes,

"When it comes to college hockey rivalries, you have Cornell/Harvard, Michigan/Michigan State, Boston U/Boston College, and Elmira/RIT."

RIT/Elmira will always be one of my favorite memories of sports across any level of play.

I'll leave you with,
