Anyone have thoughts on the first regional rankings from the ACHA? You can view them here:
http://www.achahockey.org/page.php?page_id=3117&league_id=1061

I can't really comment on the Central or West regions because I have not seen a single team from those regions play.

In the Southeast, my comment is less about who was ranked than about who also received votes. As a fan from a team that has never been ranked or even received a vote to be ranked, it is frustrating when a team like UPenn receives votes EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE WINLESS IN CONFERENCE! How is that possible?

Are William Paterson and FGC scheduled to play during the regular season? That game would be tremendous.

As for the Northeast, I'm amazed that Rowan is in the rankings over a team like Bridgewater State. Rowan has inflated their record with in-conference wins against weak GNCHC opponents. I'm not saying they don't have good wins (over Temple, RIT, Montclair St) but I think head to head Bridgewater State would take them pretty easily.

UPenn got a vote?!

Rowan is the dark horse, and beating Montclair St and Temple is good.

I think its funny that FGC is #1, I dont know much about them except they wanted to join the MACHA. Glad they didnt, too far! Where do they get their players from?

I dont think Willy P and FGC play until we get into the post season

Here is another thought on FGC. At the Club level the good teams play and practice a lot. Ice time = experience. FGC plays 43 games this year! On top of how many times they practice, and I would assume their practices are time well spent. They also play all the good teams, so that alone will make them better. Personally I have a career and family so 43 games isn’t an option for me. But to compete and really be good that’s what you need to do. Willy P and Wager play a lot too.
Then once you have a couple of strong seasons and are constantly ranked you get good players.
And getting good players is the key.

Yeah FGC and Kennesaw as well wanted to join the MACHA. Speaking for Seton Hall, we would have had to meet them halfway to play our games. That would still be like an 8 hour trip to meet FGC halfway!

Looking at their roster they have about half their players from Florida, half from Ontario, and a few from other places (NJ, MI). I think they have such a good reputation as a club program that they get the best players in Florida (is there a dominant DI varsity team in FL?). Also, I think players that would play for the other top DII club teams (WPU, Davenport, GVSU, Sienna) but want to go south probably choose FGC easily.

As for the rankings, I was also suprised to see Siena atop the Northeast. I'm not saying they shouldn't. I just know that they lost to Willy P and I figured that schools from the Boston area would be stronger than NY state teams.

XMan, I gave you some “reputation”. Now you have that bar under your name. Since we’re the only ones who follow Club haha

Thanks for the "rep" JB! Now if you could give my Pirates a solid 2nd and 3rd defense line and I'd really be in good shape.

Yeah it appears we are the only ones interested in Club hockey, especially club hockey on the east coast. Maybe I'll make up some more names and post under them to give the appearance of more people interested in club hockey.

that reminds me. You have a guy playing club and Jrs? What Jr team?

EDIT: Just looked at the SHU schedule. You play Wagner, Temple, and UMBC. Thats tough! Good luck. Please knock off all 3 please :)

The West Region is a little harder to decipher right now because it's still a little early to tell what's going on.

Colorado is the obvious choice for #1 and UVSC has had a pretty good showing thus far. But there is a fat grey hazy between #4 through #12 because there is a vicious circle of Utah State losing to Colorado State, Colorado State losing to Denver, and Dever losing to Utah State.

BYU hasn't played a whole lot games yet so it's a little hard to judge where they stand.

Arizona St and UNLV just can't get enough of playing against each other.

Can't tell if USC is having a down season this year or what. Although splitting games with San Jose St is a little promising.

Texas Tech came out this season swinging with a very ambitious schedule against Oklahoma, Arizona, Central Oklahoma, and the D2 showcase tournament. Not sure if racking up loses really helps their cause but at least they've gained some really good experience. We play them this weekend in Austin.

I know nothing about the West. But there are so many teams out there. How does the West stack up to the East? Example, how does the West #1 Co compare to the East #1 in FGC or William Patterson? Im asking because I dont know

PS there are some posts missing from this one and the other threads

To answer your question J_B, our guy playing for a Jr team too is #62. He plays for the Jersey Wildcats Jr. B. They are based out of North Jersey. He is the one that may be transfering out to a DIII varsity.

As for the West region, I know they have some very strong teams. My only basis for comparison is the DII showcase. UVS made a strong showing but Texas Tech seemed to be overmatched, only beating Life (who usually isn't too strong). I know the real powerhouses seem to be in the central (GVSU, Davenport, any other Michigan school), but I think the West seems to have some skilled teams. It seems that the West and Central have a lot more large state schools than the Southeast and Northeast. That doesn't mean we can't hang, though.

Keep us posted on developments in the West THC :D

Hopefully I'll get updated scores sent to the "ushsho.com/acharank" computer which will give a hopefully more even and unbiased ranking, though it is still hard for the computer to rank NY teams vs CA teams due to the lack of overlap between regions.

As for my Iowa State Cyclones, both teams are off to slightly disapointing starts, and due to the DII wanting to move on to tougher competition home games are hard to come by and there's only 2 of 4 home weekends left (though I have a hard time remebering 1/2 them as it is).

1 down, 2 to go!!!!

HUGE 3-1 victory for Seton Hall tonight over Southeast region #3 team Wagner. It was a well played game all around by the Pirates and hopefully they can build from this game. Hopefully this showed them that they can play with anyone.

Awesome!! Congrats and thanks for taking down one of the big boys. Wagner is playing some inconsistent hockey so glad you made they pay.
Now knock off Willy P will you!?!?!

2-1 loss to Temple for SHU on Saturday...frustrating a little bit because it was again the PP that killed us. We had a late PP with about 10 SOG during it, and came up empty.

Of course Temple's goalie played excellently as well. SHU's goalie had a second stellar performance. 35+ saves in the losing effort.

J_B, what's the word on St. Joe this weekend?

Saturday lost to UMBC.
Just didnt play well and took bad PIMs. They are a good team. Our goalie played great but didnt get much help.

Sunday
SJU beat Lafayette 6-2 (or something like that). Was really close through half the game and SJU got a couple of quick goals towards the end of the 2nd.
Also Smith for SJU made one of the best breakaway moves Ive ever seen for a goal. After the game the Lay coach and a ref said it was the best move they've ever seen.

2-1 lose to Temple is good. Seton Hall is playing some good hockey! Good job.
