Since the season is pretty much here with teams starting to get on the ice and play exhibitions, I figured it was time to get this popular thread rolling.

First question I have, Does anyone know the level of play or what league the Nepean Wildcats play in?

Oswego State played them yesterday and lost 5-3. The Lakers played it like a scrimmage (which it was) giving all 3 of their goalies a period in net.

Yes, I think you are right. They play in Midget AA with other teams such as Sudbury, Hamilton, Stoney Creek, Durham, Kitchener....I would say they are pretty good team. The Last tourney that they played in was the Stony Creek tourney where they made it to the top 4 (competing against teams like Aurora, Brampton, London, Ottawa, Toronto, Vaughn, Mississauga, Etobicoke...).

Hux will probably be able to give you the best assessment of this team. However he is at the UNH-Colgate game right now so you will have to give him some time.

BUMP....

just wanted to push this up there in case Hux didnt see it. You may have already answered the question in question, but just in case....to the top!

Norwich lost its opener to Sacred Heart, 4-1. I have not found any details but just by the score alone, it appears Norwich could be a mid pack team in the ECAC East.

I should be in attendance for tommorow afternoon's Elmira exhibition against the Markham Stars.

Looking forward to seeing if the team has improved from last year with the experience gained also hoping to see what Ritzel and Mulligan can bring to the table to help push the Eagles back up to where they belong.

Plattsburgh Vs Cornwall Exhibition 5-2

Plattsburgh started out slowly and Cornwall got a beautiful goal on a breakaway in the first. The rust started coming off and the Cards took command in the second. SOG 40 - 15. Card freshman got two goals.

Elmira was leading Canadian Junior team the Markham Stars 5-2 after 2 periods of play at the Murray today.

EC looked pretty good for the most part. They were the much faster team and they got a goal within the first minute on a Jamie Kivi slapshot that was deflected in by Lauryn DePaul.

Markham settled down after that and had some good spurts where they were able to control the action in Elmira's end, but not enough to put forth consistent pressure and put Elmira back on their heels and catch them in a defensive lapse from being tired after long shifts.

EC's two freshmen looked pretty decent. Ritzel is gonna be an offensive force from the blueline. She's got a nice slapshot and she's big so she can protect the net and clear out paths for Cubberley and McGurry to see shots.

Mulligan played on Elmira's 3rd line and showed some good speed. She's got good size and could definitely be someone tough to bring off the puck if she gets more aggressive in the offensive zone.

Boy did i not miss watching the hustle of Jenna McCall, Jamie Huntley, Tory MacNeil, and Amy Hunnewell!

Overall, Elmira didnt seem to miss a beat from last year and losing just one player. I think they could definitely be right there in the end with Plattsburgh this year as long as they stay focused and confident on the ultimate prize and STAY OUT OF THE BOX!

That was a problem last year for the Eagles and they gave Markham two 5 on 3's today and the Stars scored on 1 of them.

I noticed that Chatham and Oswego played a very competitive game yesterday. Anybody see it?

Adrian turns things around on Neumann today as they get the 3-2 win over the Knights. Looks like it's time for people to start recognizing Adrian as a legit team and they may even garner some honorable mention votes in the next poll.

Kudos to both the Adrian Men and Women for earning hard fought splits against Neumann this weekend.

Great to see such a successful D3 story in just their first year having a program.

The Saturday game between Salve Regina and Saint Anselm at Salve at 6pm has been moved from to Friday night at Saint Anselm at 7pm. The Salve rink has apparently been leaking chemicals so the game had to be moved.

The Plattsburgh/Neumann game tonight will NOT be on WIRY. The men are at Oswego and that game will be on the radio/internet. I am trying to find out if WQKE is going to broadcast the women's games.

UPDATE: WQKE will NOT be doing the game. So there will be no web cast.

However, I can text someone some updates and they can post them here. Just let me know. My email is billr@cardinalhockey.net

I will also be taking photos of tonights game. I am looking forward to testing out my new Nikkor lens I got today! I will try to get some of those shots posted tonight.

Go Cards!

Point better stay out of the box today if they are gonna have a chance against GAC. How did the new goalie look?

RE: UWSP & St. Olaf: Both goalies, Hulme -UWSP and McNamara -St. Olaf, looked solid. Point had quite a few scoring chances is the 1st and came out of the period down 0-1. They made the most of their chances in the second, which carried them to the win. St. Olaf looks improved - well coached, and disciplined under constant fire. Nice turn out of fans put a charge in the Oles.
