Colgate hits the ice tonight, opening their season at #8 Boston College, followed by a trip up north to #3/4 UNH on Saturday. The Raiders are getting some attention in the national polls after coming off their most successful season in program history. I am waiting to see what the lines will look like - I have my predictions! Watch for Sam Hunt, Elin Brown, and Katie Stewart to ignite the offense. Mallory Johnston and Kiira Dosdall will bolster the blue line on defense. Goaltending? Not sure. Surpise us!

aren't expecting anything from Minnick or McDonald tonight?
...and I would like to see Plenderleith between the pipes.

Sure thing! Edell, Minnick, McDonald are definitely expected to contribute in big ways this year. I am excited to see what the first-years have to offer. Word on the street is that Hannah Milan has true talent. Looking forward to seeing how freshman walk-on Tai Stephan fits into the team this season. Endless possibilities with this crew ...

Believe it. She can be superb. Give her some time, she might still be recovering from a hand injury, but definitely a name that will come up more often then not for the next four years.

Agreed. Colgate looks pretty good on paper….translating that to the ice is a whole other story. ECAC should be awfully fun to watch this season. Best of luck to the Raiders.

Sounded like a good first game, we just couldn't cash in. Also sounded like we played a little soft at the ends of the first and second when BC scored within 12 seconds of the end of both. Good discussion on their forum site with some admitting that they got outplayed, but still won because of their goalie. Sounds like Gate over the past 5-6 years with the stoppers we've had. Hope we can focus a bit more tonight as UNH has the horsepower...:)

The Raiders lose to #3 UNH in Durham 1-0. Outshot by a big margin, and lots of penalties (including a major), however Colgate stayed in this game up until about 3 minutes in the last period. And I got to see Plenderleith in goal today, sounds like she did a super job on 41 saves. This bodes well for the Raiders. They are going to give the ECAC quite a challenge in conference play. And if they can clean up a little bit, they should continue to give the top teams a tough test.
Plenderleith was the difference between it being a 4-0 game and them being in it until 'til the final horn sounded. She is very agile, and scrambles well when the action gets hairy in tight. She stoned Birchard with a great glove save on a labeled shot, and with butterfly slide from the right post robbed Bellamy point blank on what should have been a layup goal on a cross crease pass. Defensively Colgate can take some of the credit by keeping UNH to the perimeter for the majority of their shots.
However, they didn't mount much offense until the third, and some of their best chances actually came when they were shorthanded. Ultimately getting into penalty trouble is what did them in.

Hux, can you explain why Colgate was not still shorthanded after UNH scored their goal?

Plendeleith, Colgate Edged by No. 3 UNH (http://ecachockey.com/women/2007-08/game_stories/20071410_ColgateUNH)

Hey, I didn't see you shooting today? Were ya just chillin' and cheering?
Because the fist penalty had expired one second before the goal was scored, making the second penalty the one that was nullified.

UNH initially had a 4x3 pp.....so when the first penalty expired one second before the goal was scored, that made it 4x4. UNH had 2 seconds left in their penalty, and colgate had 1:51 left. the 2nd penalty should not have been released.

Ah, hello, if you are playing 4x3, and a penalty expires and you are now at 4x4 and then the goal is scored, you get that remaining penalized player back and you would then have five players. Simple math.

It appears from the comments the goal was scored while the sides were even, 4 on 4. Why would the opposing player be allowed out while the scoring team's player stays in the box?
You are right. I was thinking the penalties were coincidental and both had come out. UNH was still in the box. Looks like the simple math is too complex for my simple mind. :o

No Hux, as usual you're speaking before you're thinking. You're so good at that.

Yes, well-deserved. I saw her play; I was vehemently rooting against the maroon and dark gray (what's up with the lack of contrast between the road shirt color and the numbers on them:confused: ) I took issue with the Boys in the Box (behind her:) ) when they called her a sieve. Congrats to Colgate on a great acquisition. May our team always be one goal better!

Great effort by Colgate to come back for the tie in one that almost got away. Was watching the live statistics and didn't have a feel for what was happened in the 3rd when Gate fell behind by 2. Lisa P seemed not as sharp as she was against UNH, but not being there I don't know if there were breakdowns on D or what. Anyone see the game? As a Garden Stater, it was interesting to see Alyse Ruff score for PC. She was the best girl high schooler in NJ the past 4 years. Could be a good one for PC..
