Could the D3 members here please post the prices that are being charged for entry into the women's games. Just curios to see what the Plattsburgs & Middleburys, So Maine ect were getting for prices or if they were charging at all. Any help would be appreciated.

Through last year in the regular season RIT had no charge. I dont know if they plan to charge this year or not.

Stevens Point was $6 per adult. Players were allowed to reserve up to two tickets for a parent coming to the game for free.

Plattsburgh doesn't charge for the women's games. However, with the new rink upgrades coming next summer it will be interesting to see if they start charging for the 2008-09 season.

The only DIII women's regular season games I recall paying admission for have been Manhattanville's "home" contests in Rye at Playland Ice Casino (a facility owned by Westchester County). I believe adult admission has been
$5.
Bowdoin charged a single $3. for admission to the NESCAC 1st round games (women's and men's) they hosted on 2/24.
Middlebury charged $5. admission to the NESCAC semi-final games and the same for the final. The charge was the same for the NCAA quarter-final at Kenyon for the 3/9 Middlebury-Manhattanville game.

When I was following one of the d3 women's teams around I can remember paying admission at So. Maine, possibly St. Mike's and having to be on a comp list at Manhattanville. I do not remember being charged at RIT, Elmira, Cortland, NEC, Salve, MIT, Sacred Heart, Union, RPI, UMass-Boston, Holy Cross, Plattsburgh, Middlebury, St. Anselm's, or Utica (although Utica served beer which I considered a hugh bonus). (Moved from Men's Thread.)

Not D3, but the only times I've had to pay were at HEA and NCAA D1 tournaments. Of course, I haven't been to any other sites besides Kelley Rink.

Layout at Playland makes it pretty tough for them to really police admission. I think there is a substantial portion of the crowd that just walks in. Actually, as I am typing this I am thinking that may be more of a problem at the men's games where the crowds are bigger. At the women's games the stream (trickle?) of people through the doors is light enough that if they want to be militant about it they can grab people.

How is the Ice Casino facility? Is it as "Honkey Tonk" as the name would imply? The USCHO Mville page list the dimensions as 208 X 77. Does the rink size effect the game?
A $5 admission probably won't bankrupt anyone, so it's probably paid on an honor basis anyway. Does the rink get the fee instead of rental or does the fee go to the school?

Playland was home ice for my D's boy's bantam team the last two years so I know it well. As a Westchester County facility for the community it is not bad. It is kind of a neat facility in a retro way and I am sure once upon a time was viewed as amazing. It's great for public skates and birthday parties (they actually have two smaller ice sheets for these). I have limited experience with facilities at other D3 schools, but generally my sense is it leaves a lot to be desired though as a venue for serious college hockey. Decent locker rooms for the home team right behind the benches, but visitors locker rooms are upstairs and down the hall and are pretty pathetic. Not laid out well to handle any signficant amount of spectators. Perhaps not a problem for the women's team, but I have definitely been to men's games there were it was an issue - for instance NCAA playoff game last year against Babson. I haven't been there this year (D gone to prep school so no more boy's hockey - I am in a little bit of withdrawal waiting for winter prep season) but I heard that the county put in new boards, benches, scorer's box, etc. Great that the county is putting money into the facility and maintaining it, but hard to fix some of the bigger picture issues regarding what the facility is versus what a serious college hockey program should have.

I loved our visits to the Casino following my daughter's college team. Loved the pre-depression era design and the depression era look, reminded me of the movie, They shoot horses don't they?. Pre game we would go to the deli right by the entrance to the park (great sandwich selection) and eat the sandwiches on the boardwalk where the movie BIG was filmed.
My daughter hated the locker rooms and there were crazy bounces from the boards where the zamboni entered and on the same end behind the goal where they shoveled excess shavings through a board they removed.
At womens games they set up a table to collect fees but I suspect you could have told them you were going to one of the other surfaces or to the restaurant/game room.

The money goes to the school. The county made many repairs and upgrades due to the fact that they held the Empire State games in the county this summer. M'ville started playing in New Rochelle, that place might have provided better site lines for fans but the locker rooms were just as bad for both the home/visitor (without the flight of stairs). There are only so many changes they can make to improve the ice casino as it is a landmark. Until they build their own rink on campus this is actually M'villes best option. I understand from the people at Playland that M'ville is paying more for the facility than the NY Rangers were. If it just provided better sight lines it would be a good place to take in a game based on the area.
As for size of the ice, it seems to make a difference in the women's game as the M'ville women never translate their game to wider sheets (see Middlebury three years running)/ I know they have gone as far as to rent ice elsewhere for practice to prepare for games on wider surfaces.

This video includes a lot of footage shot in the Ice Casino (including the underwhelming locker rooms) if you want an idea of the retro/landmark feel:

It's also a nice piece about a girl hockey player.
