With School started, practices and weight sessions well under way, and the Red-White Game just around the corner, I cant wait to see what the season will bring.
The Schedule (http://uwbadgers.com/sport_news/whky/schedule/?sportid=138)
Roster still to be finalized (allthough Ive noticed that they did change Maria Evans to Maria Deluce.... (; hope they catch that!, and they removed some of last years seniors)
My perception of the Full Roster is this:
Forward
Mallory Deluce
Meghan Duggan
Maria Evans
Jasmine Giles
Kayla Hagen
Tia Hanson
Angie Keseley
Hilary Knight
Emily Kranz
Erika Lawler
Kelly Nash
Kyla Sanders
Jinelle Zaugg
Defense
Rachel Bible
Anne Dronen
Olivia Jakiel
Alycia Matthews
Emily Morris
Mikka Nordby
Ally Strickler
Malee Windmeier
Goaltender
Alannah McCready
Krista Tatum
Jessie Vetter
Coaches & Staff
Head - Mark Johnson
Assistants - Tracey Cornell, Dan Koch
Volunteer - Jeff Sanger
Strength & Conditioning - Jim Snider
Grad Assistants - Molly Engstrom, Sara Bauer, and Phoebe Turner
DWHO - Paul Hickman
Trainer - Jen Pepoy
*The Staff will also include a Student Trainer, 2 Team Managers, a student assistant strength coach, and a Video Coordinator, however I don't know all the names yet, nor the changes from last season*
While the Non-conference schedule really stinks other than New Hampshire, the conference slate should be a bit tougher than in past years.
I think Vetter will see about 90% of the starts with McCready getting the rest (Union, RMU, anytime were up by 5 or more the first game). I am told that Tatum being a walk on will not see action unless they get into a desperate situation.
Ill be interested to see the way mark creates his lines. I know what I would do, however I am thinking we may see a ton of adjustments prior to the series at UNH. It must be nice to have 8-9 of 13, first line quality forwards to pick from.
Last bit of info I can think of right now.
I am told that the red-white scrimmage currently set for either 2pm or 7pm next Saturday at the Kohl, may be moved to the following Monday at 2pm (either at the SHELL, Kohl or Eagles Nest), due to the Iowa football game.......
(the girls could be gettin' hosed right out of the gate on that one)
Also Ive heard around that Deluce has no-showed several planed team outings so far, Iam thinking things like team building, headshots and interviews, or weight room time?? anyone know anything? My source on that didn't seem to think it was an odd occurance.
Given that Miss Deluce, and 40 of her country's best were holed up in BC through the weekend for Hockey Canada's Fall Women's Festival, it would have been difficult if not impossible to make any appearances in Madison. ;)

yea ur right about that. :o
I had only heard about Meaghan Mikkelson, and Bobbi Slusar playing in that the other day, nothing on Deluce being there as well. I knew already that Carla MacLeod was playing. I was over today and talked to a couple of the girls that had no clue where she was at or when she was arriving, only that she would be there prior to red-white game. Wonder how hard thats gonna be for her to get her bearings once she arrives in town, given that she has already missed a ton of classes, getting adjusted to campus life, etc.
Also heard today that we may be getting a transfer in next semester from St. Lawrence. I'll believe that when I see it.
It really makes you wonder what is up with Hockey Canada and their scheduling of events like this? What part of "back to school" did they not understand when dropping by the local Old Navy, Staples etc. in August? They seem to have no regard for the fact that institutions of higher learning frown upon students missing classes, particularly the first few days of a new semester.

Exactly!
It sure would be nice if they could move all these activities to the summer months, at least during non-olympic years. However I am sure if Mark or Katie Stone, or Mike Sisti would request that there players not take part in these events this early in the school year that they would then be blasted by the folks that are not so College frendly for "trying to limit a players national team prospects" or some other crap.
The National programs have basicially from the middle of May until the middle of August for these camps and whatnot, theres no reason for it to effect the start of someones collegiate career.

You best believe it

Agreed 100%. And there is really no other reason for them to do this other then that they can. Boo.
...not to get off subject form Wisco hockey, but Miss Johnston (Cornell) and Miss Agosta (MC) were invited to the Festival but were "excused due to other commitments." I wonder if those cmmitments were school? and I also wonder whether this will affect their chances at rostering (perhaps we'll never even really know for sure either way)?

Both Ms. Johnston and Ms. Agosta are too talented to miss rostering. During the Four Nations in Nov 07 and the Worlds in April 08 their will be collegiate players missing both school and games. That is just the way it is.

At least she won't be completely alone in this late college adjustment. She and Kyle Turris will be able to commiserate together as they try to catch up!

Don't be naive. I'm sure both girls will roster as well, but HC's history speaks for itself...

Right. Both American and Canadian national team members will miss some school and NCAA games, but thats not what we are talking about. We are talking about Canadian players missing their first week of school and such because of HC's hooky scheduling. Now. If a Canadian player misses the Four Nations or Worlds due to a school commitment, then I wouldn't put it past HC to blackball them in the future (no matter how good they are).
Sorry for hijacking the thread(again). I'm done now....
Oh, and my dog, Badger, has something to add: "Go Badgers!!!!" :D :D ;)

Actually there is an agreement in place that the National teams WILL NOT be taking collegiate players to Four Nations, which is in Sweden this year. Camps will begin in late October, with the teams traveling overseas in early November, and the games themselves lasting over a week and what amounts to nearly a month of time away between travel, camps, and games.

Has anyone received their season tickets yet? With the season quickly approaching and the arrival of men's tickets last week, I wanted to make sure they aren't "lost in the mail."
Also, any inside word on the scrimmage? Saturday, Monday, never?
16 days until the home opener -- 9 until the season begins! :D :D :D

Is this really true? Last year collegiate players were on the team. Where did you hear that? I can not believe we would have a very good team without the collegiate players.

Its what everyone seems to have been told since roughly mid-july (hux verify?). Its the fact that its in Sweden and the collegiate kids would miss nearly a month of school and time away from their teams.
It was bad enough on teams last year with Four Nations - NCAAs - Worlds all so close together. I know for the badgers alone, certain kids had nearly 2 months where they were away from there full studies. Thank god for Academic Advisers and Tutors. Its a wonder they are all still eligible.
Its not like Four Nations is a cant miss event.
I am sure that USA Hockey and Hockey Canada can find enough post college players willing to make the trip to Sweden. Leave the collegians at home!

Well, since it's now after business hours on the Thursday before, I am beginning to think that they might just not have this at all this year -- or more likely, just do it in-house without a public invitation. It's a shame the football game has for some reason trumped what would be a good pre-season roll-out for the team...

Yea
For good news though the girls will have there on field intro during the game Saturday night. Hopefully it will be better than last year when many of them had to be woken up in the stands to participate (hint, hint, under agers! :D ).
