Are we all shellshocked that Wisconsin split with the Bulldogs in Daloot, or have we all forgotten how to type?
What will it take for Wisconsin to host a national tournament quarterfinal game in Madison in mid-March of this year? Would that be guaranteed if they can move up to #4 or higher in the national rankings, or does it depend on something else? It sure would be nice to play that quarter at the KC in front of 5000-6000(-7000????) bloodthirsty screaming UW fans instead of out in East Toenail, Connecticut in front of 45 family members and 3 referees. Remember the Harvard game last year at the Kohl? WOW!
Not so much.
I think we all posted enough of our views from the weekend in the UW/UMD thread.
I think at this point even if we win out we wouldn't get to host a home regional unless a few teams ahead of us fall way down. It would be a great reward for this hard working younger team, but I certainly don't feel its in the cards right now.
Maybe if we sweep the rest of the way and get lucky with some others loosing I may feel differently.

P.S. I think I got the links correct this weekend CrazyDave! ;)

Just found that thread. Very interesting reading. Thanks for mentioning it.
Looking at the USCHO rankings, I note that the two teams immediately ahead of #5 Wisconsin are the goofers at #4 and UMD at #3. We play two games at Minnesota in a week and a half, and then almost unavoidably play one or both of them in the WCHA tournament March 8-9. Overall, this looks to me like a very good chance for the Badgers to control their own destiny regarding hosting a national quarterfinal in Madison. We know that there will be four national quarterfinal games, and they've gotta be played somewhere. It would seem reasonable that the top 4 teams in the rankings would be rewarded with home ice in the quarters, but I'm not sure that this is always done. Does anybody know for sure? Hux? Anyone else?
Just speculating, let's say at worst that the Badgers and goofers split in Mpls on Feb 23-24. After splitting with UMD at UMD last weekend, that's certainly not a stretch. UMD appears to have first place in the WCHA locked up, leaving Wisconsin and the goofers at #2 and #3, in whatever order. In the WCHA semis, #1 UMD will likely play the #4 seed, whoever that may be, and #2 and #3 would play each other. Let's speculate that the Badgers win this one and go to the finals to play UMD. Whatever the finals results against UMD, I've got to believe that winning 2 out of 3 vs Minnesota at the end of the season would have to vault UW over the goofers to #4 in the rankings and a likely quarterfinal at the Kohl?

If you look at the Pairwise the Badgers are ranked 7th. In the RPI the badgers are also ranked 7th. And in the KRACH Bucky ranks 6th.
Please note that in the Pairwise and RPI St. Anselm is rated, however they are not eligible for the NC Tournament.
All three of those use some form of the same formula used by the NCAA in picking the tournament teams. The USCHO poll among others, has no bearing
on the selection.

Thanks for clearing this up for me, blogger. Had the right concept of highest ranked teams being rewarded with home ice advantage, but assumed use of the wrong rankings. My bad.
Now your comment that several teams ranked above UW would have to fall down for Bucky to host a quarterfinal makes perfect sense. :)

2 - 0 Wisco after 1. Don't think Bemidji has a shot on net yet:eek:

Glad to see Kyla notch another goal and the game winner.
Also glad to see Zaugg with three points on the night. I think this moves her into the lead for points.
EDIT: A three way tie for points at 30 a piece for the Superstar, Jello, and the short one good in the corners ;)

Pretty Easy 3-0 Win Today at Eagles Nest
Almost a mirror Image to yesterday overall.
Zaugg got the game winner about a minute in and that about did it.
Alannah McCready got the start today and only saw 12 shots all game, but at least she got a much needed 60 min of experience. She never had to make to difficult of a save.
Chris Perrault must have been bored in the 3rd. Both the Cody Interference and the Lawler holding the stick calls were a bit out there.
Zaugg-Deluce-Duggan each had 2 points on the day...
Crowd of 790ish seemed a lot bigger in the smaller arena.
Thats about it for now.

After the second period Saturday, a young lady in red at the ticket desk, as opposed to the Per Mar people in yellow or blue, told me that about 700 fans had been admitted and "less than 50" had been turned away. I also heard in the stands that all but 180 tickets had been sold in advance.
