Laurie Baker Is The New Head Coach At Bb&n .
She Sent Out Letters To All Her Players.....saying She Was Leaving For A New Start....
Hmm, interesting. Yesterday at the Pre-Prep Showcase (quite the affair with some 60 prep schools in attendance) in Salem, NH the BB&N table had the boys' coach, and the girl's assistant coach, whom word had it was going to be the new Head Coach. Other rumors had Paul Kennedy leaving Cushing for BBN.

Does anyone know what happened with the first replacement that was announced (early spring I think) for Jamie wood? The last name was Makela and he played somewhere in NHL. All of a sudden it's changed to a new announcemnet.

Mr. Mikko Makela was hired back in April as the Director of Hockey Operations. Coach Wood and Mr. Makela worked together in preparation for the coming season and to help find Coach Wood’s replacement. Mr. Radim Haupt was hired in late May as the new head coach and will be in Warner later this month when the girls return to school. This should set things up well for future growth of the program.

Sort of. Laurie had resigned her position as assistant AD back in the spring and told the girls she would be back as coach before the whole BC mess came to light. The letter states thats a new challenge and better hours due to BB&N being a day school which will give her more time to spend with her daughter. However it says nothing about coaching.

Heard from a good source last week that indeed Baker is the new head coach along with a recent grad from Union as one of the assistants.

Milton Academy girls have a new coaching staff, Bronwen Kelly, assisted by Darcy Corson. Wendy Holden left after the '07 season. Jackie Young transferred to Nobles from Milton Academy. She will repeat her sophomore year at Nobles. Season outlook for Milton girls is tepid with five starters returning, but the recruiting yield fell far short of need. It would be great if this program could make some strides toward being once again competitive in the ISL, as they were in the "old days" with Keady, Savard, et al.

Brooke Whitney (Northeastern, '02 and Patty Kazmaier winner) is the new Associate Director of Athletics at Lawrence Academy and presumably the new girls' hockey coach.

Duh, I knew the name rang a bell. Nice transition, though the coach at Groton who was supposed to be taking over probably isn't too happy now.

Here's a shot at it.
1. Nobles: got an excellent goal tender (2 actually one is young) 2 very good junior transfers on top of a solid group of upper classmen. Hard to argue with Mr. Resor.
2. LA: got 2 very good junior transfers, an excellent freshman class (3) and again an excellent upper class. Nobles and LA will go head to head for the ISL crown. These 2 teams could swap positions. New coach, but has a lot experience.
3. Berkshire: always tough.
4. Tabor : Foley and very good goaltending
5. Andover: some good upper classmen. Especially on defense
6. Up for crabs I guess. Open to suggestions.

How could you leave out CUSHING!??!!??? expect them to finish in top
this year with Martino PG and 8-9 seniors this year including U18 National team member A. Slozjek (and BC recruit '08) and Coach Kennedy -- this should be their best year!!!!

Sheba you are right! HUGE mistake by me.
REVISED:
1. Cushing
2. Nobles
3. LA
4. Berkshire
5. Tabor
6. Andover
I really can't beleive I left out Cushing. Strong coach, excellent Defense, may struggle to put the puck in the net against the top teams, but still good enough to finish Top 3 at worst.
Again big mistake forgetting Cushing!

I kind of like being an overachiever, so let me be the first to produce the 2007-2008 Div. 1 proposed ranking!!
(Mind you I have only some idea of who is losing what for Seniors, who has promising recruits or greatly improved underclassmen, coaching changes, etc.... in other words, this will only serve for entertainment and/or angst based on your mood!)
1.) Cushing
2.) Hotchkiss
3.) Pomfret
4.) Tabor
5.) Nobles
6.) Berkshire
7.) Loomis
8.) BB&N
Outside looking in: Choate, Taft, Lawrence, Brewster, Westminster, Andover
Swami has spoken!
Okay, okay, what a difference 5 months makes! Let me try again:
1.) Cushing
2.) Berkshire
3.) Nobles
4.) Tabor
5.) Lawrence
6.) Andover
7.) Loomis
8.) Hotchkiss
Outside Looking in: Choate, Taft, Westminster, BB&N, Brewster
Another rebuilding year for Pomfret :(

I agree at least partially and at this early stage with the top 8.
I might not put Berkshire finishing as high in the rankings. Berkshire lost some key talent. They did reload some, but were erratic last year. Definitely in the top 8, but just not top 2 or 3.
Nobles and Cushing will be missing their national squad players for some part of their season and that'll have an unpredictable effect on the teams. Nobles will be in top 2-3 if goaltending this year is what they've been used to. They needed defense, not scoring punch.
Tabor is a wild card. Great goaltending and a good defensive squad took them a long way last year and may again.
Andover. Big tough defense. Wouldn't call them for the top 8 though.
Lawrence/BB&N could benefit or not from new coaching. That's not about the coaches themselves but about adapting to a new coaching style. Not BB&N's year yet.
Taft is looking at a lot of rebuilding and won't replace Snickeris easily. Pomfret will struggle even more than last year after losing productive players to transfer.
Westminster has scoring punch and one of the best prep school goaltenders. Could make it into the top 8 again. Would pick them to make it in over Andover.
Don't discount Brewster. They weren't too far out of the top 8 last year. They just ran out of steam and dropped just one or two critical games. They need to pare down their schedule some.
Choate is a wild card. Losing Knight makes a big difference, but there was a very good group of young players behind her performance. They weren't scored on that often in regular season last year and only 4 goals against in 3 playoff games. That says more than just Knight was performing. If they catch even just a little replacement offense in the incoming class or by transfer etc...
My pick for the top team...Loomis. Deep, talented, well coached last year. Surprised in last years playoffs - I saw that game and the Nobles goaltending held them off just long enough - and will be older and wiser and no less deep, talented, and well coached this year.
My pick to surprise...Exeter. They improved throughout the year and filling out just a few positions makes them a threat for sneaking into the top 8 this year.

Cushing also gets a PG from Phillips Academy- Megan Shea who is a forward.

Look for a very different Brewster team from last year. Well, I guess they have to be different having lost ten players. I'm thinking that they will start the season well under the radar but I'd also bet that they're going to make some noise based upon their incoming recruits. Two girls from Alaska, one from Alberta, two from Toronto, two from the Canadian Atlantic provinces, one from Michigan, two from Assabet and one from Sweden who has played for their U18 National team. They return their goalie who holds every Brewster goalkeeping record, two very good D and some experienced quality forwards. Where last year, quite honestly, IMO, their downfall was due much more to early season injuries and late season "senioritis" than it was to too many games as some people think. Really, I think, there were only two games last year where their schedule could be blamed in any way for lackluster performances. This year's team should be hungrier for sure. I'd put a few bucks down that they're a top eight team come March.
